A patient with advanced severe mycosis fungoides presented several unusual features, including prominent lesions of the palate and tongue and an orbital tumor with exophthalmos and ophthalmoplegia. Two patients developed traumatic orbital haemorrhage resulting in prolonged blindness. Orbital decompression successfully reversed the visual loss, though both eyes had no light perception for at least 3 1/2 hours. The clinical findings suggest damage to the posterior optic nerve as cause of the visual loss. The optic nerve tolerance time to ischaemic injury may be longer than previously thought.

The lower eyelid skin-muscle flap is now widely used for cosmetic blepharoplasty, primarily because of the ease and speed of dissection it offers. We have used the same technique as a surgical approach in fractures of the orbital floor and rim. In a large clinical series seen over a three and a half-year period, no major complications were noted. This approach provides simple, extremely rapid exposure of the injured area and is an excellent alternative to other approaches to this site.

Measurement-based ultrasonography proved mandatory in ophthalmic diagnostic work. It provides comparable examination conditions and therefore, comparable results, in contrast to simple, empirical ultrasonic examination. Two cases of orbital echinococcus cysts studied by computed tomography are presented. Incidence of orbital hydatidosis in Turkey is reported. Computed tomographic findings of orbital hydatid cysts are reviewed and summarized. Medial displacement of the orbital plate of the ethmoid bone is emphasized as a frequent finding in the reported cases.

Ocular motility problems of 50 consecutive patients following orbital decompression for dysthyroid (Graves') ophthalmopathy were analyzed retrospectively. Autogenous and homologous fascia lata have been used to correct many problems in ophthalmic surgery. This paper has described the use of autogenous fascia late to correct lid retraction secondary to thyroid ophthalmopathy, cicatricial entropion and extruding orbital implants. The surgical procedures have been briefly discussed, as well as the presentation of one clinical example of each procedure the pathologic and immunologic aspects of fascia lata grafts will be reported at a later date.

A report is given of two infants who developed an orbital abscess within their first month of life. Generally they were unaffected, and malignancies were initially suspected. Ultrasonography showed partly cystic, partly solid lesions. The likely infectious foci were conjunctival malformations, a mucosal fistula in case No. 1, a conjunctival cyst in case NO. 2. A series of 342 patients with unilateral exophthalmos underwent orbital diagnostic studies including ultrasonography, computerized tomography, radiographic studies, and vascular contrast studies. Each test was found to have diagnostic capabilities that complemented other studies depending upon the specific disease process involved. The lens opacities appear like those known in senile cataracts if the eye was injured after the 45th year of age. The technique of removing both the scarred tarsal plate and orbital septum is described for correction in cases of severe trachomatous entropion. The procedure gave about 90% satisfactory results in a series of which 35 eyes were operated. The combined technique is simple and can be performed as an office procedure.
