Digital Mental Health Interventions for Depression: Scoping Review of User Engagement.

BACKGROUND: While many digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) have been found to be efficacious, patient engagement with DMHIs has increasingly emerged as a concern for implementation in real-world clinical settings. To address engagement, we must first understand what standard engagement levels are in the context of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and how these compare with other treatments. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to examine the state of reporting on intervention engagement in RCTs of mobile app-based interventions intended to treat symptoms of depression. We sought to

Protocol for the Ketamine for Postoperative Avoidance of Depressive Symptoms (K-PASS) feasibility study: A randomized clinical trial.

Background: Postoperative depressive symptoms are associated with pain, readmissions, death, and other undesirable outcomes. Ketamine produces rapid but transient antidepressant effects in the perioperative setting. Longer infusions confer lasting antidepressant activity in patients with treatment-resistant depression, but it is unknown whether a similar approach may produce a lasting antidepressant effect after surgery. This protocol describes a pilot study that will assess the feasibility of conducting a larger scale randomized clinical trial addressing this knowledge gap. Methods: This sing

Intragastric injection of botulinum toxin A for weight loss: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Intragastric botulinum toxin A (BTA) injection is a potential treatment for weight reduction in obese patients. Current studies yielded conflicting results. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the efficacy of intragastric BTA injection for weight management. METHODS: We searched several databases to identify RCTs evaluating intragastric BTA injections for obesity. We applied random-effects models for all meta-analyses due to heterogeneity in the included studies. The mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence int

The effects of acupressure on postoperative nausea and vomiting among patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Laparoscopic surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in general surgery, with fewer side effects and rapid recovery. Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remains the main challenge that confronts the prognosis of this minimally invasive surgery. We aimed to evaluate the effect of acupressure, a nonpharmacological non-invasive method, on the incidence of nausea and vomiting following laparoscopic surgery within the early phase (first six hours postoperatively) and the extended phase (for at least 24 h postoperatively). METHODS: We searched PubMed,

Feasibility of Nitroglycerin Patch as a Pretreatment for the Distal Radial Approach: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial (DRANG Study).

BACKGROUND: The distal radial approach (DRA) is a novel catheter cannulation technique to access the distal radial artery for coronary angiography (CAG). It is associated with less occurrence of puncture site occlusion than the conventional transradial approach. However, cannulation failure occasionally occurs due to difficulty in puncturing the smaller distal radial artery. Nitroglycerin is expected to improve the rate of successful DRA via its vasodilative and vasospasm-preventive effects. METHODS: The DRA in CAG using transdermal NitroGlycerin patch (DRANG) study is a single-center, double

Randomized controlled trials on the use of cannabis-based medicines in movement disorders: a systematic review.

Anecdotal references, preclinical, and non-randomized studies support the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids for movement disorders (MD). To create an evidenced-based point of view for patients and physicians, we performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCT) on the use of cannabinoids in MD. The seven RCTs found on PD used different cannabis formulations. No improvement of motor symptoms was shown in any of the two RCTs with this as primary outcome (PO), but in the nabilone group, an improvement in quality of life was documented. Of the three RCTs having levodopa-induc

Videolaryngoscopes versus direct laryngoscopes in children: Ranking systematic review with network meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: Videolaryngoscopes improve tracheal intubation in adult patients, but we currently do not know whether they are similarly beneficial for children. We designed this ranking systematic review to compare individual video and direct laryngoscopes for efficacy and safety of orotracheal intubation in children. METHODS: We searched PubMed and five other databases on January 27, 2021. We included randomized clinical trials with patients aged ≤18 years, comparing different laryngoscopes for the outcomes: failed first intubation attempt; failed intubation within two attempts; failed intubat

Tolerance induction through early feeding to prevent food allergy in infants with eczema (TEFFA): rationale, study design, and methods of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Up to 8% of all children in industrialized countries suffer from food allergies, whereas children with atopic eczema are affected considerably more frequently. In addition, the type and starting time of weaning foods seem to influence the development of food allergies. However, data from interventional studies on weaning are controversial. The aim of this randomized-controlled clinical trial is to investigate, whether an early introduction of hen's egg (HE), cow's milk (CM), peanut (PN), and hazelnut (HN) in children with atopic eczema can reduce the risk for developing food allerg

Effect of light needle in the treatment of opioid use disorder: A protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder occurs worldwide and creates an increasing economic burden and public health crisis. Some problems are associated with using opioid agonists; therefore, there is a need to develop non-opioid treatments to improve acute and long-term opioid withdrawal syndromes. METHODS: We will enroll 100 participants with opioid use disorders receiving methadone maintenance treatment at an addiction treatment center and randomly allocate them to an experimental or control group. The experimental group will receive 12 sessions of light needle therapy within 4 weeks, while the c

Emulation of the control cohort of a randomized controlled trial in pediatric kidney transplantation with Real-World Data from the CERTAIN Registry.

BACKGROUND: Randomized controlled trials in pediatric kidney transplantation are hampered by low incidence and prevalence of kidney failure in children. Real-World Data from patient registries could facilitate the conduct of clinical trials by substituting a control cohort. However, the emulation of a control cohort by registry data in pediatric kidney transplantation has not been investigated so far. METHODS: In this multicenter comparative analysis, we emulated the control cohort (n = 54) of an RCT in pediatric kidney transplant patients (CRADLE trial; ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01544491) with d
