Emotional pathways to aggression: An experience sampling study of early adolescents.

The high prevalence of aggressive behavior among adolescents represents one of the most pressing challenges facing society today, contributing to significant social, emotional, and academic consequences. The present study used longitudinal data collected via the Experience Sampling Method (ESM) to investigate physical and relational aggression among a sample of Canadian adolescents (Mage = 10.85 years; 54% male). Through frequent assessments during the school day and the integration of self-report and peer-nomination data, this design enabled examination of fluctuations in emotional reactivity

Nurse-led pathways for loneliness and social isolation in older adults: a narrative review of assessment, relational mechanisms, and implementation.

Loneliness and social isolation in later life are major public health concerns that can compromise emotional wellbeing, participation, function, quality of life, and healthy aging. Intervention effects nevertheless remain heterogeneous and difficult to translate into routine services. This narrative review addresses a specific gap left by modality-based syntheses: how nursing assessment, relational work, and service implementation can be assembled into an accountable pathway from detection to sustained connection. A PubMed/MEDLINE search through 19 June 2026 was supplemented by focused publish

The SOAR project: Developing a framework for screening for older adults' abuse risk.

OBJECTIVE: Globally one in six older adults experience abuse; however, abuse of older people (AOP) remains under-detected and under-reported. Existing screening instruments often lack sufficient psychometric robustness and cultural responsiveness to effectively identify those at risk. This study aimed to identify key physical and psychosocial variables associated with AOP to inform development of a concise, evidence-based screening tool for use in Aotearoa New Zealand. METHODS: First, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of International Resident Assessment Instrument, Home Care (interRAI-HC) d

Palliative care in chronic heart failure in the Netherlands: practices, competencies and barriers among hospital-based healthcare professionals : From the Working Group of Palliative Care of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology (NVVC).

BACKGROUND: Although proven beneficial, palliative care (PC) and advance care planning (ACP) for patients with chronic heart failure (HF) are still underexposed. This study aimed to (1) explore current practices of hospital-based healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding PC and ACP in chronic HF, (2) assess their competencies, and (3) identify barriers to integrate PC and ACP into routine chronic HF care in the Netherlands. METHODS: A task force of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology developed an online survey using Qualtrics. The survey was distributed among HCPs involved in the care of pa

Beyond Performance Status: Optimize Cancer Care in Older Adults.

Older adults account for approximately 60% of new cancer diagnoses and 70% of cancer-related deaths, yet they remain consistently under-represented in clinical trials and are routinely assessed using performance status (PS) tools developed over seven decades ago. The Karnofsky Performance Status and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) PS scales, while simple and widely adopted, fail to capture the multidimensional vulnerabilities that define physiologic aging. Studies show that 43%-69% of patients with good PS have geriatric assessment (GA)-identified deficits that independently predict

Heart failure in chronic kidney disease: what the second universal definition changes.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are biologically entwined and clinically difficult to disentangle. The 2026 Second Universal Definition of Heart Failure reframes heart failure as a syndrome defined by symptoms and signs, objective evidence of structural or functional cardiac abnormality, and a dynamic disease trajectory. Its implications for CKD and dialysis require focused consideration. SCOPE: This review interprets the consensus in a nephrology context. It considers the move beyond rigid left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) thresholds; the recognition of at-

The 'Fundamentals of Care Framework' in health care settings: a scoping review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This review will map the use of the Fundamentals of Care (FoC) Framework in health care. INTRODUCTION: Health care systems are increasingly complex, but person-centered care remains central to nursing, and the FoC Framework provides a structured approach to embedding this principle in practice. It emphasizes therapeutic relationships and the integration of physical and psychosocial needs through relational actions, supported by an enabling context. Despite growing evidence on person-centered care, no review has mapped the use of this framework to guide health care professionals and

Coronal and Root Caries in Older Adults: Associated Factors, Quality of Life Impact, and Treatment-A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries remains one of the most common chronic diseases affecting older adults worldwide. As edentulism decreases and more natural teeth are retained into old age, the number of susceptible tooth surfaces increases. Age-related factors such as polypharmacy, cognitive decline, and reduced oral hygiene skills, together with systemic and social factors, increase the risk of caries. Although the literature is extensive, the evidence for diagnosis and management remains fragmented and lacking clinical integration. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to assess and map current evi

Applying the Health Belief Model to Identify Factors Associated With Owner Persistence to Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) is the only treatment targeting the pathophysiology of canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) and feline atopic skin syndrome (FASS). Despite its disease-modifying potential, owner persistence remains a clinical challenge. This study applied the Health Belief Model (HBM) to evaluate factors influencing owner persistence with ASIT. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: We hypothesised that owner perceptions of ASIT effectiveness, perceived barriers (e.g., cost) and ease of treatment integration would be associated with persistence. The objective was to identify modi

FreqMamba: Spatial-Frequency Fusion and State Space Sequence Modeling for Deepfake Detection.

The rapid evolution of deepfake generation techniques has made high-fidelity facial manipulation a critical threat to social credibility and personal privacy, demanding detection algorithms with strong cross-domain generalization. Existing methods suffer from two fundamental limitations: spatial-domain approaches cannot capture imperceptible forgery artifacts, while frequency-aware methods lack effective integration of spatial semantic and spectral features. To address these challenges, we propose FreqMamba, an end-to-end face forgery detection framework that adaptively aggregates spatial sema

Inequity in access to palliative care services worldwide and in Slovenia.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care aims to enhance the quality of life of patients and their families facing progressive and incurable disease by addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual challenges. Despite being recognized as a human right, palliative care remains out of reach for most people worldwide, with only about 14% of those who need it receiving it. Global demand for palliative care is rising due to aging populations and the increasing burden of chronic diseases. While high-income countries focus on expanding access and inclusivity to this care, low-income countries face sev

Development of a patient decision aid prototype on the decision to continue, reduce or discontinue antipsychotic medication following remission of first-episode psychosis.

BACKGROUND: Shared decision-making is essential to patient-centred care, but remains underutilised in psychiatry, particularly when deciding whether to continue, reduce or stop antipsychotic medication after remission from first-episode psychosis (FEP). Existing decision aids do not fully address recovery goals such as autonomy, identity and social reintegration. AIMS: To co-develop a patient decision aid (PDA) prototype that supports individuals in making the decision to continue, reduce or stop antipsychotics following remission from FEP. METHOD: We used a patient-centred design process in
