Racial/ethnic and weight status disparities in dieting and disordered weight control behaviors among early adolescents.

The predictors of persistent DSM-IV disorders in 3-year follow-ups of the British Child and Adolescent Mental Health Surveys 1999 and 2004.

BACKGROUND: The identification of the factors that influence the persistence of psychiatric disorder may assist practitioners to focus on young people who are particularly prone to poor outcomes, but population-based samples of sufficient size are rare. METHOD: This secondary analysis combined data from two large, population-based cross-sectional surveys in Great Britain (1999 and 2004) and their respective follow-ups (2002 and 2007), to study homotypic persistence among the 998 school-age children with psychiatric disorder at baseline. Psychiatric disorder was measured using the Development

Eligible studies were selected based on inclusion criteria and included English language, peer-reviewed publications of randomized controlled trials comparing BTX versus any alternative intervention or placebo. Quality assessment and data extraction were don

Trauma care supported through a global telemedicine initiative during the 2023-24 military assault on the Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territory: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Hospitals, patients, and health-care workers are legally protected by international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. However, since Oct 7, 2023, the health-care system in the Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territory, has been under unprecedented direct military attacks by Israel, with support for patients proving to be challenging for the remaining health-care workers. Peer-to-peer telemedicine holds promise for assisting surgeons in high-risk, low-resource environments, but might be of reduced utility in extremely austere settings. METHODS: We present a patient case

Polysubstance use in early adulthood and associated factors in the Republic of Ireland: An analysis of a nationally representative cohort.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Alcohol and other drug use is common in early adulthood; however, research on contemporary polysubstance use patterns-defined as use of multiple psychoactive substances-and their associated factors is limited. This study aimed to identify groups with differing polysubstance use patterns and to examine associations with individual, family and socio-environmental factors. DESIGN: This is a cohort study based on data from the Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) study. GUI employed a two-stage clustered sampling design, using the national primary school system as the initial sampling

Early Hormonal Treatment Affects Body Composition and Body Shape in Young Transgender Adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Transgender adolescents aspiring to have the body characteristics of the affirmed sex can receive hormonal treatment. However, it is unknown how body shape and composition develop during treatment and whether transgender persons obtain the desired body phenotype. AIM: To examine the change in body shape and composition from the start of treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) until 22 years of age and to compare these measurements at 22 years with those of age-matched peers. METHODS: 71 transwomen (birth-assigned boys) and 121 transmen (birth-assigned girls

The purpose of this study was to explore the psychosocial experiences of parents caring for a child with EA during early childhood. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving five focus groups with 22 parents of children aged 0–7 years with EA. Manifest content analysis with an inductive approach was used. Data saturation was achieved across and within groups. RESU

Behavioral and neural interrelationships of sensory difficulties, intolerance of uncertainty, and anxiety in autistic children.

PURPOSE: Autistic children often experience higher levels of sensory difficulties and anxiety, compared to their non-autistic counterparts. Available evidence suggests that intolerance of uncertainty (IU) mediates the relationship between these factors. We aimed to further the examination of the interrelationship between these phenomena, as well as their underlying neural mechanisms, in children. METHODS: 30 autistic children (ages 6-11 years) and 26 age-matched neurotypical (NT) peers participated in resting-state fMRI, as well as various behavioral assessments of sensory processing, anxiety

How LGBTQ + adults' experiences of multiple disadvantage impact upon their health and social care service pathways in the UK & Ireland: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Despite increased awareness of the significant health and healthcare inequalities experienced by minoritised groups, limited research considers the interaction of multiple domains of social disadvantage. This review therefore sought to explore how LGBTQ + adults' experiences of homelessness, substance use, and criminal justice involvement impact upon their access to and use of health and social care services in the UK and Ireland. METHODS: A qualitative scoping review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR framework. Electronic database and web searches identified 26 elig
