INTRODUCTION: Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable malignant neoplasm that accounts for approximately 1% of all cancers and 10% of haematological malignancies. Bortezomib is one of the most commonly used medications in first-line treatment and subsequent relapses, either as a single agent or in combination with other therapies. This study aims to assess the effects of bortezomib on the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival, overall response rate, time to next treatment, health-related quality of life, compliance, adverse events and treatment-related death in patients with MM.

Bortezomib, a proteasome inhibitor, is an established therapy against multiple myeloma. Bortezomib-induced lung injury, although not appreciated during the introductory time of the medication, has now been highlighted in multiple case reports. Ixazomib-Revlimid-Dexamethasone is an all-oral treatment protocol for multiple myeloma with a manageable tolerability profile which was available through a named patient program for Hungarian patients from December 2015 to April 2017. Double relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma (DRMM), MM that is relapsed and/or refractory to bortezomib and lenalidomide, carries a poor prognosis. The healthcare costs of DRMM have not previously been reported.
