Effects of nerve sparing on erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

INTRODUCTION: In 2020, there were >1.4 million new prostate cancer cases and >370 000 related deaths reported globally. Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a surgical method used to eradicate localised prostate cancer. However, erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence (UI) are common side-effects. This retrospective cohort study investigated erectile function, urinary continence, and oncological outcomes of nerve sparing (NS) in RARP. METHODS: In total, 431 patients who underwent RARP in our institution between January 2018 and April 2023 were recruited; all had attended

Novel Robotic Valvuloplastic Esophagogastrostomy Technique After Proximal Gastrectomy: A Safety and Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Esophagogastrostomy is one of the reconstruction techniques after proximal gastrectomy, but reflux and esophagitis are significant concerns. We introduced a new robotic valvuloplasty technique (single-flap), taking advantage of robotic surgery to address these issues and simplify the technique, especially for tumors with esophageal invasion. METHODS: Between March 2022 and March 2024, patients who underwent robotic proximal gastrectomy with the single-flap technique were included. Based on the difficulty of the surgery, patients were divided into 2 groups: one with esophageal inva

[A Case of Urothelial Carcinoma of Renal Pelvis Intraoperatively Diagnosed during Robot-Assisted Ureterocalicostomy].

A female in her sixties with a history of pyelolithotomy for right kidney stone at age 26 presented with right back pain. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed right hydronephrosis, and a retrograde pyelogram showed stenosis of the pelviureteric junction. Five years after initial presentation, robot-assisted renal ureterocalicostomy was planned for recurrent back pain, and decreased renal function. The lower renal calix was exposed and anastomosis with the ureter was performed for half of the caliceal hole. However, intraoperative flexible endoscopy, which was performed to confirm the posit

Robotic mitral annuloplasty using a semi-continuous three-suture technique with a flexible band.

Robotic mitral repair is often associated with longer ischaemic and cardiopulmonary bypass times, particularly early in the learning curve. We demonstrate a semi-continuous, three-suture technique for robotic annuloplasty that retains the mechanical principles of traditional interrupted sutures while leveraging the advantages of robotic precision and exposure. The use of pre-knotted sutures minimizes intra-cardiac knot tying, further enhancing procedural efficiency.

Application of Augmented Reality in Robot-Assisted Mitral Valve Repair Surgery: A Feasibility Study.

OBJECTIVE: In mitral valve surgery, it is important to be aware of adjacent intraoperatively invisible anatomy, to avoid complications and enhance safety. In this feasibility study, we aimed to develop semi-automated intraoperative 3-dimensional (3D) augmented reality (3D-AR) overlays for robotic mitral valve repair. METHODS: In 5 patients undergoing robot-assisted mitral valve repair, a 3D point cloud was generated, using intraoperatively recorded images from both eyes of the stereoscopic da Vinci camera (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA, USA). An intraoperative 3D-AR overlay was created us

Robotic Hybrid Ablation with Novel Epicardial Electrophysiological Mapping: Impact on Atrial Fibrillation Therapy.

We report the first use of the EnSite X system for intraoperative electrophysiological mapping during a robotic hybrid ablation (ROK-AF procedure) for long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation. Epicardial ablation targets were identified through epicardial mapping, and post-ablation electrical silencing was validated using the mapping system. Unlike conventional electrophysiological mapping systems, the orientation-independent omnipolar technology in EnSite X provides directional activation vectors, high-resolution electrograms, and peak frequency analysis, thereby enhancing substrate chara

Primary B-cell lymphoma of the renal pelvis following robotic nephroureterectomy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: We present a rare case of Primary Renal Lymphoma (PRL) diagnosed on histopathology following robotic nephroureterectomy. This case explores the diagnostic and management challenges urologists face, when treating renal masses. CASE PRESENTATION: An 82-year-old male presented with recurrent macroscopic haematuria and a computed tomography intravenous pyelogram (CT IVP) reported renal papillary necrosis and an associated mass effect at the right renal pelvis. Urine cytology was inconclusive, whilst inpatient pyeloscopy revealed a renal pelvis tumour. This was biopsied and reported as

First Report of Robotic-Assisted Liver Resection With Pre-Coagulation Technique by Microwave (With Video).

INTRODUCTION: The high spatial cognition and freedom of forceps manipulation provided by robotic assistance enable three-dimensional liver resection. This is highly beneficial and innovative in laparoscopic hepatectomy. One of the remaining issues is bleeding control in cases of easily hemorrhagic cirrhotic liver. We reported a pre-coagulation technique by microwave. To our knowledge, this is the first report of robotic-assisted liver resection with a pre-coagulation technique by microwave. MATERIALS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: The patient was a 71-year-old male with a history of alcoholic hepati

Laparoscopic Repair of Transmesosigmoid Hernia Following Robot-Assisted Abdominoperineal Resection: A Case Report.

Sigmoid mesocolon hernia is a rare type of internal hernia that can rapidly progress to vascular compromise, necrosis, and intestinal perforation. Therefore, rapid diagnosis and surgical treatment are important. We present a case of transmesosigmoid hernia following robot-assisted abdominoperineal resection that was successfully treated using a laparoscopic approach. An 80-year-old woman underwent robot-assisted abdominoperineal resection for anal canal cancer. The postoperative course was uneventful. Two months after the surgery, the patient presented with upper abdominal pain. Computed tomog

Comparison Between Robotic Rectopexy and Perineal Approaches in the Treatment of Rectal Prolapse: A Review of the Literature.

Rectal prolapse (RP) is the external protrusion of the rectum through the anus. It is either mucosal, where only the mucosal layer prolapses, or full thickness, with circumferential protrusion through the anus of all layers of the rectal wall. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment and can be performed via abdominal or perineal approaches. This literature review aimed to compare robotic and perineal approaches for treating RP in terms of outcomes, recurrence rates, and cost-effectiveness. PubMed was searched for all studies focusing on RP robotic and perineal approaches between 2015 and 2025. Th

Robotic secondary cytoreduction in recurrent ovarian cancer: a tailored approach for kidney transplant recipients.

BACKGROUND: The rate of kidney transplantation has been steadily increasing worldwide, accompanied by significant improvements in post-transplant survival rates. However, transplant recipients have a higher incidence of malignancies compared with the general population, and their oncological management often poses unique challenges. In recent years, major advances in the treatment of ovarian cancer (OC) have expanded the therapeutic options available for recurrent disease. Two randomised trials have underscored the role of surgery in platinum-sensitive recurrent OC while minimally invasive app

Mediastinal Intrathymic Symptomatic Parathyroid Adenoma and Robot-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (RATS) Approach.

Anterior mediastinal masses, including thymomas, lymphomas, and ectopic parathyroid adenomas, pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to anatomical complexity and diverse aetiologies. Symptoms often stem from local compression, requiring multimodal imaging such as CT, MRI, and PET for accurate diagnosis. Primary hyperparathyroidism, frequently linked to ectopic parathyroid adenomas, causes hypercalcaemia and systemic complications. Traditionally managed via sternotomy, advancements in minimally invasive techniques, particularly video-assisted (VATS) and robot-assisted thoracoscopic surg

Optimizing Robotic Spleen-Preserving Distal Pancreatectomy: Strategies and Innovations to Enhance Safety and Efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy by robotic surgery is a safe and feasible surgical technique. Currently, spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy represents an alternative to the classical distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy, in the case of benign and low-grade malignant diseases of the body or pancreas tail. The reasons for preserving the spleen are based on the reduction of postoperative complications, such as post-splenectomy infections, subphrenic abscess, portal thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension, thrombocytosis, and thromboembolism. This procedure can be performed b
