We developed and tested ocular inserts containing epidermal growth factor (EGF) for a causal treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). The inserts, consisting of different alginates with hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) as a lubricant and release modifier, released EGF over time periods ranging from a few hours up to several days. OBJECTIVES: Levofloxacin is a third-generation fluoroquinolone with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, comprising enterobacteria, non-fermenters, Gram-positive cocci and some anaerobic species. A strict correlation between the intensity of the cyanide-resistant alternative respiratory pathway and the intracellular peroxide levels in the cephalosporin C producer filamentous fungus Acremonium chrysogenum was demonstrated.
