AIM: We aimed to determine the success rate of incidental appendectomy during post-partum sterilization (PPS) using the Chokchai technique and to compare the postoperative morbidity between patients who underwent this procedure with those who underwent simple PPS.
METHODS: Appendectomy during PPS was performed in 141 patients from 1 May 2012 to 30 April 2014. The control group consisted of 182 simple PPS patients. Primary outcomes were the success rate of the procedure and secondary outcomes were postoperative morbidity and complications.
RESULTS: The success rate of this procedure was 98.6%

Current guidelines suggest early surgical treatment of open fractures. This rule in open hand fractures is not well supported and may be unpractical. Furthermore, desirable debridement and washout can be obtained in the emergency department (ED). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the level of contamination, quality of washout in the emergency room, and the development of infection. Sixty-one patients with open fractures of the hand were retrospectively reviewed for demographic and fracture characteristics, and other complications. The infection rate was 14.8%.

Propofol is a rapidly acting water-insoluble non-barbiturate anesthetic agent that is widely used as an intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent. Anecdotal evidence indicates that propofol may be effective at terminating intractable migraine headache. PURPOSE: We examined the role of opioid receptors in the inhibition of bladder overactivity induced by electrical stimulation of the foot.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Experiments were done in 6 cats under α-chloralose anesthesia when the bladder was infused with saline or 0.25% acetic acid. Naloxone (1 mg/kg intravenously) was administered to block opioid receptors. To modulate reflex bladder activity electrical stimulation (5 Hz, 0.2 millisecond pulse width) was applied to the foot via skin surface electrodes at intensities of multiple times the threshold needed to induce observable toe movement.

Laryngeal spasm, which is twice or three times more frequent in the pediatric population, is paramount. INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous nephrostomy has traditionally been performed with the patient in the prone position, probably to reduce the risk of injury to adjacent visceral organs, particularly the colon. The prone position, however, is associated with disadvantages such as patient discomfort and circulatory and ventilatory difficulties, particularly in obese patients. We describe a technique of percutaneous nephrostomy with the patient in the supine anterolateral position using local anesthesia, ultrasound-guided puncture, and fluoroscopy-controlled placement.
