BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to ascertain the clinical characteristics associated with herpes simplex virus (HSV) urethritis in men and to compare those with chlamydial urethritis.
METHODS: We compared clinical and laboratory data from men diagnosed with polymerase chain reaction confirmed HSV urethritis with those of men with chlamydial urethritis presenting to Melbourne Sexual Health Centre between 2000 and 2015.

The aim of this work was to assess the state of the fallopian tubes in women with urogenital chlamydia (UC) and infertility. 344 women 18-49 y.o with infertility have been investigated. UC was detected in 133 of them -38.7%, (main group), UC was absent in 211 (61.3%) patients (comparision group). In the main group prevailed the tubal or tubal peritoneal factor of infertility (51.9% versus 19.4% in the comparison group, p<0.001). We detected levels of interleukin-8(IL-8) and nitric oxide(NO) in 62 prostatic fluids. The results were that microbiologic exam, IL-8 content, and NO level in control group were all negative; there was not significant difference on the microbiologic exam and NO level between the chronic prostatitis group and non-prostatitis group; there was significant difference between two groups of IL-8 positive ratio. These results suggest that the IL-8 detected in the prostatic fluid of patients with prostatitis may be a diagnostic indicator of prostatic infection.

Chlamydia trachomatis is a well-known cause of acute and chronic salpingitis, accounting for approximately half of all cases of pelvic inflammatory disease. Typically, patients with acute chlamydial salpingitis present with acute lower abdominal pain, tenderness on bimanual pelvic examination, or vaginal discharge.
