Standing computer work is increasingly popular. However, despite the higher rates of computer work-related disorders in women, no studies have compared how standing work affects men and women. Twelve males and 12 females completed 90-min typing tasks in each posture while electromyography (EMG) data was recorded from eight muscles of the upper body. PURPOSE: The objective of this study is to assess proprioception anomalies in postural deficiency syndrome in a group of children suffering from reading impairment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty male patients with an average age of 11 years and 9 months were included in the study. Initially, they were given a standardized neuropsychological examination, which confirmed the diagnosis of reading impairment. Then after filling out a questionnaire seeking a proprioceptive anomaly, the patients were subjected to a clinical ocular and postural examination consisting of nine precisely described steps.

We examined the effects of the nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic zopiclone and the benzodiazepine hypnotics triazolam and nitrazepam on standing steadiness. Eight healthy volunteers received placebo, zopiclone (7.5 mg), triazolam (0.25 mg), and nitrazepam (5 mg) in a random-order, double-blind crossover design. Postural sway was assessed before and 1 and 2 h after drug administration using a stabilometer connected to a microcomputer. Triazolam significantly impaired standing steadiness.
