The effect of chair-based exercise on physical functioning in postmenopausal women: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Following menopause, women commonly experience accelerated losses in muscular strength, flexibility, and balance, predisposing them to falls and osteoporotic fractures. Guidelines suggest that chair-based exercise (CBE) has shown the potential to prevent loss of physical functioning. Theoretically, it is a safe and effective alternative for postmenopausal women to exercise while seated. However, its efficacy in postmenopausal women has not been comprehensively quantified. This systematic review addresses this gap by focusing exclusively on postmenopausal women, synthesizing evidence

Urbanization, socioeconomic status, and exposure to PM2.5, associated with township-based cerebrovascular disease (CBD) mortality.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Previous research has shown an association between socioeconomic status (SES) and mortality, particularly in chronic diseases. However, limited studies simultaneously examined the relationship between urbanization, SES, exposure to PM2.5, and cerebrovascular disease (CBD) mortality at a township level from 2011 to 2020 in Taiwan. METHODS: Township-level SES data (percentages of low-income and education with college and above) and seven levels of urbanization from 2011 to 2020 were obtained from data sources in Taiwan's central government. Age-standardized CBD mortality r

Evaluation of content validity and feasibility of the World Falls Guidelines' three key questions to identify falls among older adult users of home care services in Norway.

BACKGROUND: Falls among older adults (65 + years) is an important issue in municipal home care. Screening using the World Falls Guidelines' three key questions (3KQ) is recommended to identify older adults at increased fall risk, but the 3KQ has not been formally tested by healthcare practitioners (HCPs) working in Norwegian municipal home care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the content validity and the feasibility of the 3KQ among HCPs in home care services. METHODS: Participants were 10 multidisciplinary HCPs working in home care and in low-threshold services of Oslo, Norway. We eva

Lifestyle intervention to prevent type 2 diabetes after a pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis update.

BACKGROUND: Women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are at increased risk of type 2 diabetes, and lifestyle intervention (LSI) offered a decade after pregnancy is effective in preventing diabetes. However, since diabetes frequently onsets in the initial years following pregnancy, preventive actions should be implemented closer to pregnancy. We aimed to assess the effect of lifestyle interventions, compared to standard care, in reducing the incidence of diabetes following a pregnancy complicated by GDM. METHODS: We searched the Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE, and Web of Science

Impact of multicomponent physical exercise and high-intensity interval training on osteoporosis in postmenopausal women: protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a progressive degenerative bone condition leading to increased fracture risk. Therefore, osteoporosis acknowledges around 200 million cases, with about 70% of the cases occurring in postmenopausal women. Medicaments are often suggested to treat osteoporotic conditions, but physical exercise also plays an essential role. The current literature highlights multicomponent training (MCT) and high-intensity and high-impact exercises as physical exercise interventions that positively affect postmenopausal women's bone health. Furthermore, there is prior evidence of systema
