A known HIV-positive male patient presented with a rapidly progressive ulcerative lesion involving the conjunctiva, lids, and anterior orbit along with a decrease in vision in the right eye. He was on anti retro-viral and anti-tubercular therapy. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of hypoxia on the activity of nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) in placentas obtained from healthy women and patients with late gestosis (pre-eclampsia). We report the fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology findings that allowed us to diagnose cryptococcal parotitis in a 31-year-old HIV positive patient. The patient presented with painful and enlarged right parotid gland and a CT scan showed a cystic lesion with rim enhancement. We report the first known case of syphilitic gastritis in an HIV-infected person. The presentation of nonspecific abdominal pain and weight loss in a 48-yr-old former intravenous drug user previously treated for asymptomatic syphilis led to a barium swallow which demonstrated linitis plastica.
