Eight patients with the same number of developmental dislocated hips were initially treated with open reduction through an anterolateral approach. The hips then became dislocated again. There were six girls, with a mean age at first open reduction of 13.3 months. We treated the hips with a new open reduction through an anteromedial approach. A case of bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia of long duration with autopsy confirmation is reported. The main features of the syndrome included paresis of ocular adduction upon attempted lateral gaze, horizontal nystagmus in the abducting eye, and an absence of converging eye movements. Forty-five patients with 47 cases of chronic lateral epicondylitis treated surgically were reviewed. Physical examination revealed increased pain with resisted wrist extension, particularly when the elbow was straight. The presence of contracture of the anterolateral elbow capsule at surgery explained the pain with extension. Release of the capsule with the extensors provided relief in 87% of patients. Operative treatment is successful in most cases of chronic tennis elbow when conservative means are exhausted.

Few cases of patients with Cheng's type III portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) have been reported to achieve radical cure without recurrence over time. In this study, we reported on a 55-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of stage IIIa China liver cancer staging (CNLC), PVTT Cheng's type III, mild cirrhosis, and chronic viral hepatitis B. TACE combined with radioactive iodine-125 (125I) particle implantation was applied to achieve radical treatment with sequential oral anlotinib hydrochloride capsules. This case might serve as a reference for the treatment of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Neurohydatidosis is a rare zoonotic disease in nonendemic areas and a differential diagnosis of intracerebral cysts workup. Appropriate imaging modalities with serology are required for proper diagnosis. The gold standard surgical intervention is the Dowling-Orlando technique.

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare, non-Hodgkin lymphoma which arises within the capsules of breast implants. These particular tumours have expression of CD30 and are negative for Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK). Here, we report a case of BIA-ALCL in a 48-year-old woman post breast reconstruction. This case report is aimed at raising awareness and education on the significance of considering the development of BIA-ALCL in cases where cytology is negative and helping better understand this disease process.

Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome is characterized by an inflammation of the perihepatic capsules associated with pelvic inflammatory disease. The typical symptom is severe right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Cataracta membranacea (CM) is a rare condition characterized by the remnants of lens capsules and fibrous proliferation that develops secondary to lens matter liquefaction and absorption. Although CM is usually bilateral and may be associated with other congenital anomalies and poor visual prognosis; it can rarely be seen in the adults with involvement of only one eye. Reported herein, is a case of 57-year-old man who presented with CM in his right eye and underwent successful in-the-bag intraocular lens implantation with good visual outcome.

Hyperornithinaemia gyrate atrophy (HOGA) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder in which chorioretinal degeneration occurs with cataracts, myopia, and hyperornithinaemia. OBJECTIVE: To determine causes of death, estrogen toxicity, and hyperprolactinemia in a murine model of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

The authors describe two cases of giant intradiploic epidermoid cysts of the cranial vault in which there was massive intracranial extension causing signs of neurological involvement. The very slow growth and the benign histological nature of these tumors explain their long preoperative evolution and the mild neurological signs in some cases. Implantation of an artificial lens after extracapsular cataract extraction with perforation of the anterior and posterior lens capsules is only possible under special circumstances. In only one out of 5 cases could a posterior chamber lens be implanted. This kind of injury can easily lead to a vitreous-lens mixture in the anterior chamber, which then has to be removed by a vitrector. In the cases described here the unilateral aphakia was corrected with a contact lens. In order to prevent future complications neither an anterior chamber lens nor an iris clip lens were implanted.

The ultrastructure of C. neoformans was studied in two cases of cutaneous cryptococcosis. Extracellular and intracellular fungi were observed. Their capsules and clear zones were thick and distinct, but their cytoplasmic organelles were not obvious. In macrophages, a few stages of fungal degeneration could be observed. It could not be ascertained whether the changes were caused by anti-fungal drugs or by an influence by host macrophages. The ultrastructure of the yeast cells in vitro appeared to be that of degenerated cells because of a long culture period.

Three cases of esophagitis caused by oral medication are reported: 2 were the result of prolonged use of quinidine tablets (producing focal subacute inflammation mimicking carcinoma in one and stricture in the other) and one occurred soon after ingestion of liquid KCl. Previous reports have implicated KCl tablets ("slow KCl"), tetracycline and doxycycline capsules, and ferrous sulfate tablets. The factors predisposing to this uncommon complication of oral medication are discussed. In all reported cases caused by KCl tablets, left atrial enlargement was present as the result of mitral stenosis.
