High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) has been shown to induce immunogenic cell death of cancer cells, facilitating their uptake by dendritic cells (DC) and subsequent presentation of tumor antigens. In the present study, we demonstrated immunogenicity of the HHP-treated tumor cells in mice. HHP was able to induce immunogenic cell death of both TC-1 and TRAMP-C2 tumor cells, representing murine models for human papilloma virus-associated tumors and prostate cancer, respectively. Administration of anticonvulsant sodium valproate alleviated audiogenic seizures in Krushinskii-Molodkina rats, which was accompanied by a decrease in cAMP-dependent phosphorylation of microtubule-associated protein MAP2 in the hippocampus ex vivo. In contrast, audiogenic kindling resulted in a marked increase in MAP2 phosphorylation at cAMP-dependent protein kinase-specific sites. These changes in the state of MAP2 phosphorylation providing restructuring of dendrites in response to specific influences modulate neuronal activity and are the important mechanisms of neuronal plasticity.

The immunohistochemical distribution of the alpha 1, alpha 2 and alpha 3 subunit of the gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABAA) receptor was investigated in the rat brain using affinity-purified antibodies against unique parts of the amino acid sequence of the respective subunits. The distribution of the 3 subunits differed markedly from each other indicating heterogeneity of the GABAA-receptor composition in different brain regions and at various receptive compartments (dendrites or somata) of neuronal cells.

Olfactory axons of fishes can be traced after vital staining of the olfactory surface with the fluorescent dye Procion brilliant yellow M 4-RAN. Following selective accumulation by the receptor dendrites and perikarya the dye migrates intra-axonally over distances of more than 200 micrometer. Fluorescence microscope observation of formaldehyde fixed and paraffin sectioned preparations of the olfactory organ demonstrate clearly the system of intraepithelial axons and their first order bundles running toward the olfactory nerve.

Unique cytolytic degeneration of keratinocytes adjacent to Langerhans cells was observed in five cases of pityriasis rosea (Gilbert). In the cytolytic area, the normal keratinocyte structures were absent except for free ribosomes. In addition, a similar cytolytic part of a keratinocyte was enveloped by the elongated dendrites of the Langerhans cell and was detected within its cytoplasm. The significance of these findings is discussed with respect to anticytoplasmic antibodies in the sera of patients with pityriasis rosea.
