OBJECTIVE: To investigate the immunocytochemical expression of parathyroid-hormone-related protein (PTHrP) in odontogenic jaw cysts.
DESIGN: Retrospective study of archival tissue.
SETTING: University department, UK.
MATERIAL: Odontogenic keratocysts (n=27), and dentigerous and radicular cysts (n=10 each).

The main objective of this study was to assess whether cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) shows a stronger relation with the melanocytic nevi count at the site where CMM was diagnosed than with the melanocytic nevi count at other sites, stratifying by histologic CMM type, in a southern Mediterranean population. Cases and controls were selected from a population in southern Spain in 1988-1993. The study population included 116 incident cases with non-familial CMM (International Classification of Diseases 9th Revision (ICD-9) code 172), and 116 controls matched 1:1 for sex and age (+/- 4 years).

Our Danish study shows that many pigmented naevi, a tendency to freckle and light hair colours are significant, important, and independent host factors which increase the risk of development of malignant melanoma of the skin. These results are in line with what has been consistently shown in previous and in more recent case-control studies. Light hair colour may be a measure of light complexion. Topical vitamin A acid (VAA) has various mechanisms of action which may be responsible for its therapeutic success in many different disorders. Although the absorption, metabolism, and excretion of VAA are not completely understood, VAA appears to remain mainly on the skin surface. The question of carcinogenicity is unresolved, and more research is needed to clarify this problem. This article reviews the literature regarding the therapeutic uses of VAA and summarizes various investigators' experiences with VAA.

A case of Goltz-Gorlin-Syndrom (GGS) is reported with ectodermal and mesodermal defects. Differential diagnoses were: congenital poikilodermias, naevus lipomatodes cutaneous superficialis (Hoffmann-Zurhelle) and incontinentia pigmenti. Clinical aspects, histopathology, pathogenesis, genetics, and chromosomal patterns are compiled and the cases reviewed which were reported until 1974.

PURPOSE: To report the frequency of conjunctival tumors in the Dominican Republic.
METHODS: Retrospective noninterventional case series. One hundred thirty-eight consecutive patients with a conjunctival mass evaluated at two tertiary referral centers from 2010 to 2018. Main outcome measures were frequency of tumors by diagnosis and distribution of tumors relative to patients' age and gender.

Dysplastic nevi may occasionally display alarming histological features. One of these features is the presence of upward spread of melanocytes (pagetoid melanocytosis), identified either on routine histologic sections or after immunohistochemistry using one of the melanocytic markers. AIM: To identify the dermoscopic features of fungal melanonychia.
METHODS: We reviewed patient files, clinical history and dermoscopic images of all cases with a diagnosis of fungal melanonychia seen at our dermoscopy unit within the past year.
