[Progress in the application of dupilumab in pediatric dermatoses].

Dupilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that exerts its effects by targeting and binding to the interleukin (IL)-4 receptor alpha subunit, thereby blocking IL-4/13 signaling and downregulating Type 2 inflammation. It has been approved in China for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in patients aged 6 months and older, as well as prurigo nodularis (PN) and bullous pemphigoid in adults. Given its approval age and safety profile, the application of Dupilumab in children has unique advantages, and it has been widely used in the treatment of various Type 2 inflammatio

[ASSOCIATION OF PSORIASIS WITH OTHER DISEASES].

Psoriasis is a chronic relapsing autoimmune disease with a multigenetic predisposition, which occurs in about 2% of patients in Croatia and shows variable occurrence in the world. Psoriasis can be associated with various diseases, including autoimmune diseases (pemphigus, pemphigoid, vitiligo), and slightly less with allergic diseases (atopic dermatitis, asthma, urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis). According to clinical manifestations, psoriasis appears as plaque psoriasis, erythrodermic form and pustular psoriasis. Provocative factors that encourage psoriasis are infections, endogenous fa

[Current possibilities of using antimyocotic drugs in the treatment of various skin disorders].

Current possibilities of using antimycotic drugs in the treatment of various skin disorders. The purpose of this article is to review the literature data on the therapeutic protocols and the results of using some antimycotics in different skin diseases. In addition to the antimycotic action, particular antifungal drugs such as itraconazole, ketoconazole and terbinafine exhibit anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the synthesis of 5-lipooxygenase metabolites. As these metabolites are involved in a number of inflammatory and immunoreactive processes the dual action of the drugs may be suitab

Epidermal and dermal distribution of a myelomonocytic antigen (L1) shared by epithelial cells in various inflammatory skin diseases.

The L1 antigen is a major cytosol component of human granulocytes that may also be expressed by macrophages and epithelial cells. Its epidermal and dermal occurrence was investigated in formalin-fixed routine biopsy material from eleven different inflammatory skin disorders. Localization was performed with a rabbit antiserum to L1 applied in an unlabeled antibody peroxidase-antiperoxidase method. L1 antigen was not found in normal skin except in epithelial cells of pilosebaceous units. However, epidermal L1 antigen was demonstrated in every biopsy specimen from lupus erythematosus, lichen plan

[Frequent dermatologic diseases in the newborn and children].

Sebaceous gland activity in the newborn and children is extensive at first in the epidermis, and later decreases owing to defective operation of the sweat glands, circulation changes, growth of the hair, and a predisposition to infection, for which significant treatment is required. In addition to the genetic "typus neurodermiticus", pharmaceutical, alimentary and respiratory allergens and psychological factors may play a part in the appearance of atopical dermatitis. Onset is usually in the 2nd to 6th month and the side of the face and the scalp are affected. The clinical picture varies consi

[Nail changes in inflammatory dermatoses: recognition and treatment].

In many cases, chronic inflammatory dermatoses are accompanied by changes of the nails or periungual region. Sometimes nail changes occur even before the onset of the particular skin disease. In some cases, specific lesions of the nails and the perionychium can contribute to the diagnosis. This review describes the most common nail and periungual changes in chronic inflammatory dermatoses and the corresponding treatment options. Among others, this review deals with nail changes in collagenoses, autoimmune bullous dermatoses, alopecia areata, lichen planus and atopic eczema. Nail psoriasis is n

Patch testing while immunosuppressed: potential risks and benefits.

INTRODUCTION: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common cutaneous inflammatory skin disorder that is diagnosed via epicutaneous patch testing (PT). ACD may also coexist with other systemic inflammatory conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Many of the treatments used to manage severe ACD, along with other systemic conditions, interact with and suppress the immune system, thereby potentially interfering with the mechanism of PT. There is uncertainty in the literature regarding the effects of immunosuppression on the results of PT. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review wa

Promoting Integrated Care in Eczematous Dermatitis and Dry Sensitive Skin.

Sensitive skin exposed to external insults (i.e., allergens, chemicals, and radiation) becomes erythematosus, and with repeated aggravations may become chronically dry. This is often observed in atopic dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis, two skin conditions that display key pathogenic components: barrier dysfunction, skewed inflammatory immune response, and pruritus. Recent studies have evidenced that oxidative stress is a possible fourth component of the pathogenesis of sensitive skin. In patients with persistent disease, new agents and combination therapies that target oxidative stre

Infecting Mice with Malassezia spp. to Study the Fungus-Host Interaction.

Animal models are crucial for infectious disease research. They provide an important basis for analyzing the full spectrum of interactions that occur between microbes and their host in vivo in a tissue-specific manner. Pathogenic fungi are increasingly recognized as a serious threat for humans and exploiting such infection models have greatly improved our understanding of fungal pathogenicity. Species of the genus Malassezia are the most abundant fungi of the human skin microbiota and they are also associated with the development of severe inflammatory skin disorders such as seborrheic dermati

[The skin and allergy].

The skin is very often the target organ of allergic reactions. This may be explained by many immunological competent cells in this organ such as the Langerhans cell, mast cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils and eosinophils. This is especially true for the antigen-presenting Langerhans cell. Therefore in many cases, the skin is a signalling organ for allergic reactions. Examples include food allergy which precipitates with sign and symptoms of skin diseases in about 45% and drug allergy to beta-lactam-antibiotics in about 90%. Also the skin serves as test organ in allergic diseases of other organs

Changes in lymphocyte and Langerhans cell populations in allergic and irritant contact dermatitis.

We observed in situ changes in lymphocyte subpopulations and Langerhans cells during allergic and irritant contact dermatitis using immunohistochemical staining methods with monoclonal antibodies to cell surface antigens. In both types of contact dermatitis, there was a perivascular infiltrate of T lymphocytes, with helper/inducer T cells predominating. B cells were absent, and natural killer cells were absent or sparse. During the course of allergic contact dermatitis, Langerhans cells showed a striking sequential change in location, with the cells first in the epidermis, then perivascularly
