A hydroxyapatite/type I collagen (HAp/Col) composite, aligning hydroxyapatite nano-crystals along collagen molecules, has been synthesized. The biocompatibility, osteoconductivity and efficacy as an rhBMP-2 carrier of this novel biomaterial implanted in the weight-bearing site have been examined. Between 1996 and 1999, we performed successful revision ankle arthrodesis for aseptic nonunion in 10 patients using external fixation with bone graft and an implantable bone stimulator. The etiology of the ankle arthrosis in the patients was post-traumatic in eight and rheumatologic in two. The average age of the patients was 54. On average, each patient had received 2.5 previous surgeries (range, 1 to 5) prior to the original fusion attempt. AIM: The authors present their own experience in the treatment of war injuries to the extremities during the war in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
METHOD: From November 1991 until April 1994, 186 patients with war injuries to the extremities were treated. OBJECTIVE: To investigate short-term effectiveness of using expert adolescent lateral femoral nail (EALFN) in treating femoral shaft fractures in older children and adolescents.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 17 patients with femoral shaft fractures who met the inclusion criteria and were admitted between July 2020 and June 2024. All fractures were fixed with EALFN after reduction. There were 11 males and 6 females, with a mean age of 13.3 years (range, 11-16 years). Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) is a congenital abnormality characterized by mandibular hypoplasia, glossoptosis and often secondary palate cleft. It may be an isolated or part of a most complicated syndrome. The genetic syndrome that most frequently co-occurs is Stickler syndrome characterized by skeletal abnormalities, joint pain, congenital myopia and retinal detachment.
