Spatially programmed hydrogel dressing enables phase-matched sequential ion release for accelerated severe burn repair.

Severe burn wounds with excessive exudation and high infection risk disrupt all four healing phases, requiring antibacterial, exudate-managing, and phase-specific strategies to drive wound contraction and tissue regeneration. Herein, we develop a spatially programmed hydrogel dressing (SPHD) via confined layer-by-layer photopolymerization, with Ga3+ and Fe3+ ions layer-specifically immobilized to enable chelation- and spatially guided programmable release with phase-matched kinetics. Abundant hydrophilic groups and dynamic catechol-boronate ester network render the hydrogel high swelling capac

Mitochondria-Targeted Hydrogen Sulphide Delivery via an Adhesive Hydrogel Modulates Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Wounds.

Chronic diabetic wounds are challenging to treat due to persistent inflammation, oxidative stress, impaired angiogenesis, and dysregulated matrix remodelling. Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) has emerged as a therapeutic mediator with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic properties; however, its clinical translation is limited by volatility and a short biological half-life. Controlled delivery systems, such as hydrogels, are therefore required to harness its potential. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonate (Na-AMPS)-based adhesive hydroge…

Self-assembling biomimetic peptide hydrogel regulates tissue homeostasis to promote repair of persistent corneal epithelial defects.

Persistent corneal epithelial defects (PCED) remain a significant clinical challenge due to rapid tear turnover, blinking-induced shear stress, and a protease-rich ocular surface that limit the efficacy of soluble bioactive factors. We report a dual-functional self-assembling peptide hydrogel, mIGF-Gel (Biotin-DFYIGSSSR), incorporating the adhesion motif YIGSR derived from laminin and the SSSR bioactive motif derived from insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in a single design. The peptide forms a β-sheet-rich nanofibrous hydrogel with shear-thinning, viscoelastic, and self-recovering properti

A Self-Powered and Highly Sensitive Flexible Contact-Pressure Sensor for Dynamic Sensing Based on Graphene-Enhanced Hydrogel.

A self-powered graphene-enhanced hydrogel sensor (SGHS) with high contact-pressure sensitivity and mechanical robustness was developed for precise dynamic biomechanical and material contact sensing. The device generates transient electrical signals via contact electrification and electrostatic induction during contact-separation events, eliminating the need for any external power supply. The optimized SGHS achieves a maximum peak power density of 0.23 mW·m-2, with contact-pressure sensitivities of 0.6 kPa-1 and 0.26 kPa-1 in the pressure ranges of 0.25-5 kPa and 5-25 kPa, respectively, which i

pH-tunable electro-responsive sodium alginate/chitosan-based Janus polyelectrolyte hydrogel with reversible bidirectional bending.

Polyelectrolyte hydrogels are ideal for soft actuators, but conventional chitosan/sodium alginate (CS/SA) ionic hydrogels face a critical trade-off among flexibility, ionic content, and actuation speed, hindering their practical applications. Herein, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and sodium acrylate (AAS) were used to modify CS-based polycationic and SA-based polyanionic networks, respectively. A Janus polyelectrolyte hydrogel (PCDM/PSSM) with seamless interface was fabricated via one-pot synthesis, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing, and in-situ photopolymerization. Microstructural…

Hydrogel Electronic Skin Synergistically Enhanced by Multibond Crosslinking and a Negative Poisson's Ratio Structure for Human Respiration Monitoring.

Electronic skin demonstrates significant potential for wearable health monitoring and human-machine interaction. However, conventional hydrogels rarely achieve a balance of high strength, fatigue resistance, sensitivity to subtle deformations, and conformability to complex curved surfaces. They often suffer from mechanical degradation, signal drift, and insufficient interfacial adhesion under repeated loading. Here, we propose a synergistic strategy integrating multibond crosslinking reinforcement with structural configuration amplification to develop a PVA/PAA/Zr4+ ion-conductive hydrogel str…

A bilayer hydrogel actuator based on a microgel island-bridge structure for integrated sensor arrays and intelligent rehabilitation systems.

With the aging global population and rising chronic diseases, intelligent rehabilitation systems gain attention. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogels show a thermo-responsive phase change and flexibility but suffer from poor mechanical properties and single functionality. Herein, a dual-network PNIPAM-polyacrylamide-microgel hydrogel (P-M) with a microgel island-bridge structure is designed, which achieves a tensile strength of 31.6 kPa and an elongation at break of 729.6% via strong hydrogen bonding and topological entanglement. Subsequently, a bilayer P-M/polyacrylamide-Cu1.8S (P-M…

Electronically conductive hydrogel base on superhydrophobic and embedded micro-wrinkles for linear sensitivity in underwater monitors and tactile sensors.

Electronically conductive hydrogels are emerging as promising sensing materials, offering great potential for tactile sensors and wearable devices. However, interfacial diffusion tends to swell and disrupt conductive components of hydrogels in the harsh environment, thus achieving a flexible waterproof coating, stable conductive networks, and excellent sensing performance presents numerous challenges. Herein, we develop a superhydrophobic Vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxanes/multi-walled carbon nanotubes @Carbon black-hydrogel (Vi-PDMS/MWCNT@CB-hydrogel) that demonstrates exceptional water r…

Dual-function antifouling/sterilization electrically neutral hydrogel mediated bipolar autoluminescencet coreactant-free electrochemiluminescent biosensor.

The scarcity of cathodic autoluminescencet restricts the development of coreactant-free electrochemiluminescent sensor for simultaneous detection of two targets. Herein, a novel coreactant-free electrochemiluminescent sensor was prepared based on Zr-DPA@TCPP MOF and AuAgNCs bimetallic nanoclusters served as a cathodic and anodic autoluminescencet emitter respectively. Significantly, this sensor system without any coreactants, effectively overcoming the simultaneous detection issue typically relying on different coreactants for cathode and anode luminescence. Meanwhile, complex matrix component

Sensitive fluorescent biosensors based on a cascade signal amplification strategy and a stimuli-responsive hydrogel for the detection of the p53 gene.

As a key tumor suppressor gene, the mutation and abnormal expression of p53 are closely correlated with tumor occurrence and progression, making p53 an important biomarker for early tumor diagnosis. Herein, a novel fluorescent biosensor based on a Cas12a/alkaline phosphatase (ALP) cascade signal amplification strategy and a stimuli-responsive DNA hydrogel was constructed for sensitive quantification of the p53 gene. Highly stable carbon dot/silica (CD/SiO2) composites were adopted as excellent fluorescent signal-sensing elements with outstanding optical stability in complex environments. An AL

Thermosensitive hydrogel-enhanced RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a biosensor for ultrasensitive detection of methylated loci in breast cancer ctDNA.

BACKGROUND: Methylation differences exist between breast cancer tissues and normal tissues. The release of methylated circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) by tumor cells provides a foundation for breast cancer liquid biopsy using methylated ctDNA. However, detection of low-abundance methylated loci in ctDNA remains a significant challenge to date. Existing one-tube detection systems cannot avoid target depletion caused by CRISPR/Cas12a cleavage, leading to reduced sensitivity. RESULTS: This study developed a thermosensitive hydrogel-based one-tube RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a detection system, combined with me

Herbal medicine-derived carbon quantum dots in thermosensitive hydrogel: A multifunctional therapeutic strategy for UVB-induced photodamage.

Overexposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation induces oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, which accelerates collagen degradation and skin aging. Current strategies for managing photodamage mainly focus on sun protection and skin repair; however, comprehensive therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. Herbal medicine-derived materials have shown great promise in combating photodamage. Modified Qing'e Formula (MQEF) has demonstrated the ability to treat photodamage by restoring redox homeostasis and is considered an effective anti-photodamage herbal remedy. However, the traditional

A breathable and self-healing deep eutectic conductive and tissue adhesive hydrogel for strain sensor and continuous glucose monitoring.

The development of integrated wearable sensors for concurrent physical and biochemical monitoring is hindered by mechanical mismatch, poor interfacial stability, and low breathability. Herein, we present a thin (100 μm), breathable, self-healing hydrogel (ChACm) with deep eutectic conductivity and tissue adhesion. The hydrogen bonding, catechol/phenol-mediated and hydrophobic association networks enable efficient self-healing (91%) and strong adhesion to wet artificial skin (interfacial toughness: 300 J m-2, adhesive strength: 210 kPa). Its high water vapor transmission rate (WVTR:1980 g·m-2·d

Intelligent-responsive hydrogel synergistically mediates immune remodel-antibacterial-angiogenesis cascade for diabetic foot ulcer repair.

The healing of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) is severely hindered by dysregulated immune microenvironment, recurrent infections, and insufficient angiogenesis. The persistent and resistant nature, coupled with elevated morbidity and amputation rates, has driven the scientific community to pursue the development of novel therapies. Current wound dressings mostly target a singular aspect and fail to achieve systematic regulation of these dynamically related factors, highlighting the urgent need for dressings capable of accurate sense and response to the complex pathological process of wound and pre

Mitochondria-derived peptide hydrogel augments mitochondrial transplantation for promoting cardiac repair via macrophage metabolic reprogramming.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is characterized by severe oxidative stress, excessive inflammation, and profound mitochondrial dysfunction. Although mitochondrial transplantation offers therapeutic promise for MI, its clinical translation is severely hampered by the extreme fragility of donor mitochondria with rapid loss of functional viability after isolation. Here, inspired by the intrinsic cellular defense mechanisms against mitochondrial dysfunction, MOTS-c, a mitochondria-derived peptide (MDP), is selected and further conjugated with self-assembling peptide (Q11) to fabricate a hydrogel-based
