Endoscopic treatment of mandibular condyle fractures is a minimally invasive technique that avoids the complications of open reduction and internal fixation. We have used live minipigs as an animal model for learning and training the technique. Fourteen condylar fractures were created, reduced, and internally plated in 7 minipigs using an endoscopic approach by a surgeon with no previous experience of the technique. Traumatic diaphragmatic injuries commonly occur following blunt and penetrating trauma, and that may be missed during a first evaluation, resulting in chronic diaphragmatic hernia and/or strangulation. BACKGROUND: Gastroesophageal reflux is part of a generalized foregut motility disorder, which may also include delayed gastric emptying. With persistence of gastroesophageal reflux, or the presence of complications, including recurrent aspiration syndrome and esophageal stricture formation, surgical correction may be indicated. We evaluated 50 men who suffered a total disruption of the posterior urethra in conjunction with a fractured pelvis. The urethral disruption was treated with immediate placement of a suprapubic cystostomy and delayed one-stage urethroplasty. In a series of 75 patients with surgically treated lipomyelomeningoceles, the neurological condition of six patients deteriorated 6 months to 14 years after the operation due to repeat tethering of the spinal cord.
