Postoperative Nursing and Functional Rehabilitation of Ultrasound Diagnosis of Lower Rotator Cuff Injury.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

In order to explore the postoperative nursing effect and functional rehabilitation of rotator cuff repair under ultrasound diagnosis, a method of nursing and rehabilitation functional training for athletes' wrist injury under the assistance of microscopic B-ultrasound was proposed. This study retrospectively analyzed the therapeutic effect of tendon anastomosis in 237 patients with wrist tendon injury, adopted nursing measures such as health education and functional exercise, and observed its clinical effect. The results showed that after 3-6 months of follow-up, all patients had satisfactory

Rare case of a newborn baby with left-sided Erb's palsy and a contralateral/right-sided paralysis of the diaphragm.

Brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) and phrenic nerve injury can sometimes occur concurrently in neonates following difficult deliveries like breech presentation, shoulder dystocia, forceps or vacuum extraction. Phrenic nerve palsy should be suspected in a newborn with respiratory distress and an elevated hemidiaphragm on the imaging studies in presence of the associated risk factors. The right side is affected more often than the left side and most of it is associated with BPBI. We present here a rare case of a newborn baby with a left-sided Erb's palsy and a contralateral/right-sided diaphra

Spinal accessory neuropathy after deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease.

We report a man with Parkinson's disease who developed right spinal accessory neuropathy after right subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulator and infraclavicular pulse generator implantation. He complained of right shoulder pain and weakness in the post-operative period. He was subsequently diagnosed with a right spinal accessory nerve injury, confirmed by neuromuscular electrodiagnostic studies - electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction (NC) -, possibly caused by a stretch injury to the nerve at the time of creation of the subcutaneous tunnel for placement of the extension lead of the dee

Nerve grafting in brachial plexus injuries. Results of free grafts in 90 patients.

We have assessed the efficacy of free nerve grafts in 90 cases of brachial plexus injury. Relatively good recovery of the elbow flexor and extensor muscles and of those of the shoulder girdle was found but recovery of the flexors and extensors of the forearm and of the intrinsic muscles of the hand was extremely poor. Poor results were found when spinal nerve roots seemed normal to the touch and appeared intact but had abnormal somatosensory evoked potentials or myelography. Recovery of the deltoid and infraspinatus muscles was better when injury had occurred to the circumflex and suprascapula

Soft-tissue injuries related to use of the computer keyboard. A clinical study of 53 severely injured persons.

We studied 53 disabled keyboard operators who complained of pain in the forearms, elbows, wrists, shoulders, and hands. Passive wrist flexion and dorsiflexion impairment to less than 70 degrees due to myofascial shortening associated with an increase in forearm muscle pain on palpation was a useful clinical indicator of injury. Isometric muscle testing was useful in detecting injury to specific muscles. Ligamentous hypermobility of finger joints (72%) and harmful inefficient keyboard styles (intrinsic ergonomic factors) were noted, videotaped, and analyzed. Changes in the workstation (extrinsi

Glenoid bony anatomy in patients with epilepsy is influenced by their tonic-clonic seizure burden.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with epilepsy often sustain uncommon shoulder injuries, including bilateral lesions and posterior dislocations. Increased glenoid retroversion is associated with posterior instability, although it remains unclear whether this is a cause or an adaptation. During tonic-clonic seizures, the humeral head is driven cranially and posteriorly against the glenoid by muscle contractions, potentially leading to acute dislocation or plastic deformation, which can be particularly relevant during skeletal development, even without instability episodes. This cross-sectional study aime…

Preoperative CT planning of screw length in arthroscopic Latarjet.

PURPOSE: The Latarjet procedure has shown its efficiency for the treatment of anterior shoulder dislocation. The success of this technique depends on the correct positioning and fusion of the bone block. The length of the screws that fix the bone block can be a problem. They can increase the risk of non-union if too short or be the cause of nerve lesion or soft tissue discomfort if too long. Suprascapular nerve injuries have been reported during shoulder stabilisation surgery up to 6 % of the case. Bone block non-union depending on the series is found around 20 % of the cases. The purpose of t

Hello, world! VIVA+: A human body model lineup to evaluate sex-differences in crash protection.

Finite element Human Body Models are increasingly becoming vital tools for injury assessment and are expected to play an important role in virtual vehicle safety testing. With the aim of realizing models to study sex-differences seen in the injury- and fatality-risks from epidemiology, we developed models that represent an average female and an average male. The models were developed with an objective to allow tissue-based skeletal injury assessment, and thus non-skeletal organs and joints were defined with simplified characterizations to enhance computational efficiency and robustness. The mo

Perinatal brachial plexus palsy.

BACKGROUND: Perinatal brachial plexus palsy (PBPP) is a flaccid paralysis of the arm at birth that affects different nerves of the brachial plexus supplied by C5 to T1 in 0.42 to 5.1 infants per 1000 live births. OBJECTIVES: To identify antenatal factors associated with PBPP and possible preventive measures, and to review the natural history as compared with the outcome after primary or secondary surgical interventions. METHODS: A literature search on randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the prevention and treatment of PBPP was performed. EMBASE, Medline, CIN

Arthroscopic Latarjet Using a 3 Anterior Portal Technique.

Arthroscopic Latarjet is technically challenging with a steep learning curve. Several limitations include the risk of malposition of the coracoid bone block, the risk of screw fixation, such as hardware failure and irritation, and the risk of neurological injury. Initial descriptions of the technique also describe several anterior portals, especially for the subscapularis split. The learning curve is steep, and it is associated with increased risks of complications when compared to the open Latarjet procedure. This technique involves a simplified 3 anterior portal technique, with the portals l

The Darker the Skin, the Greater the Disparity? Why a Reliance on Visible Injuries Fosters Health, Legal, and Racial Disparities in Domestic Violence Complaints Involving Strangulation.

The reliance on external injuries for justice is misguided given that assault injuries may be less visible among victims of color due to increased melanin in the skin. To date, however, less is known whether racial/ethnic disparities extend to officers' identification of signs of nonfatal strangulation (NFS). The current study estimates the extent of NFS indicators identified by officers who completed a standardized strangulation assessment in 133 family violence complaints. Breathing difficulties were the most common symptoms identified by officers (98%), followed by external signs (89%), and

Restoration of Elbow Flexion with a Pedicled Latissimus Dorsi Myocutaneous Flap to a Brachial Plexus Injury at the Terminal Nerve Level.

A pedicled latissimus dorsi (LD) myocutaneous flap is a reliable reconstructive method for elbow flexion, though there are no reports regarding its application to a terminal nerve level injury of the brachial plexus. A 29-year-old man presented with dysfunction of elbow flexion, wrist extension, and finger extension. Physical examination and electromyography showed that the palsy was caused by an injury at the terminal nerve level of the brachial plexus without dysfunction of the axillary nerve. Bipolar transfer of LD for reconstruction of elbow flexion and subsequent tendon transfer for wrist

Massive rotator cuff tear associated with acute traumatic posterior shoulder dislocation: report of two cases and literature review.

A massive rotator cuff tear in association with acute traumatic posterior glenohumeral dislocation is rare. To our knowledge, only four documented cases have been reported in the literature. We present two additional cases of such injury secondary to the traffic accident. The first patient had an unsuccessful closed reduction due to the posterior instability while the second developed the profound shoulder weakness following the reduction. From the findings of our cases together with the previous reports, every patient had a unique injury mechanism of high-energy directed axial loading on an o

Clinical application of axonal repair technique for treatment of peripheral nerve injury.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of axonal repair technique for treatment of peripheral nerve injury clinically. METHODS: In 1998, the authors applied axonal repair technique to treat peripheral nerve injuries in 12 patients with 13 nerves. It consists of four steps, ie, stumps of the nerve being soaked in a modified Collins fluid, freezed, trimmed, and coapted with glue, making the injured nerve repaired at the axonal level. RESULTS: The patients were followed up for an average of 13 months. Results showed that in 4 cases of first-stage contralateral C7 transfer, regenerating axons reach

Fracture and complete dislocation of the thoracic or lumbosacral spine: report of three cases.

Severe fracture/dislocation of the thoracic (T) or lumbar (L) spine is usually associated with complete neurological dysfunction below the level of injury. Three cases of severe spinal fracture/dislocation are presented in this report. Two of these patients suffered only partial neurological deficit, which improved after open reduction, internal fixation, and bone fusion. Severe fracture/dislocation of the T or L spine may be quite obvious on lateral roentgenograms. Occasionally, however, the fracture site may be obscured by the overlying shoulders, hips, or soft tissues. If no lateral displac

Increasing pitch count is associated with increasing elbow flexion angle at ball release in youth baseball pitchers.

BACKGROUND: Baseball is one of the most popular sports among youth athletes in the United States, and among these players, pitchers are at a particularly high risk of sustaining an injury. Overuse of the arm from repetitive pitching is a common mechanism for injury. Despite the attention that overuse injury has received, little is known regarding the mechanism that leads to elbow injury. This study aims to determine the effect of increasing pitch count on elbow flexion at ball release in a youth pitching cohort. The authors hypothesize that elbow flexion would increase as pitch count increases

Workers' compensation injuries in aviation manufacturing in the state of Kansas, 2014-2022.

INTRODUCTION: Workers' compensation injuries entail burdensome financial and social costs. This study's objective was to describe cost and frequency of workplace injuries in aviation manufacturing in the state of Kansas using workers' compensation data. Manufacturing incurs more workers' compensation claims in Kansas than any other industry, and aviation contributes more of those claims than any other sub sector. METHOD: Workers' compensation insurance and reporting are required in the state of Kansas. Data were provided by the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and included all closed workers
