OBJECTIVE: This study inquired into the relationship between a pentanucleotide repeats(PNR) polymorphism of the apolipoprotein(a)[apo(a)] gene and coronary atherosclerotic heart disease(CHD) in Chinese Han nationality.
METHODS: PNR polymorphism of the apo(a) gene from 165 cases of CHD and 153 normal individuals were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-denature polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis-silver stain.

PURPOSE: To report a case of fungal keratitis resulting after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
METHODS: A 38-year-old white man in good health developed a corneal infiltrate with laboratory confirmation of fungal keratitis after LASIK. Corneal scrapings were taken. Silver stain was positive for hyphae. Culture was positive for Curvularia sp. The patient was started on intensive natamycin 5% and amphotericin 0.15% topical therapy.
RESULTS: The patient's keratitis was successfully treated with intensive antifungal therapy.

Four cases of metastatic calcification due to hypercalcemia in adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATLL) are reported. Serum calcium was at high levels, 15.4-19.4 mg/dl (normal range 8.4-10.4 mg/dl). The authors report a case of reaction to UV ink in a patient already on corticosteroid therapy. The patient's clinical course was reviewed along with images of wounds that subsequently developed.
