The natural history of changes in attachment level in the primary dentition should be determined before considering diagnostic criteria for periodontal diseases in children. The present study was designed to describe longitudinal changes in the distance between the alveolar bone crest and the cementoenamel junction (ABC-CEJ) determined radiographically. Bite-wing radiographs were obtained from 33 children as part of a routine annual dental examination in a rural community. The ABC-CEJ distance of 1500 sites located at the mesial and distal aspects of primary molars and distal aspect of primary

The present study examined the effect of aging on epithelium and on its ability to respond to an inductive stimulus provided by murine dental papillae. In fetal CD-1 mice, 15- to 17-day molar mesenchyme was combined with 15- to 19-day epithelium from the secondary palates. Enamel organs were separated from the dental papillae, and palatal epithelium was peeled away from its underlying mesenchyme after treatment with 1% trypsin. Recombinants of epithelium and papillae were initially cultured on a solidified complex medium for 24 hr followed by an additional 10-14 days of intraocular explanation

BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease is an age-related chronic inflammatory condition leading to tooth loss. Dental implants are an option for replacement of lost teeth in older adults. However, age-related changes to alveolar bone may have pathological implications for its role in supporting the dentition and dental implants.
AIM: This narrative review will focus on the age-related changes that affect alveolar bone and the implications for periodontal disease and implant dentistry.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search using the PubMed database was conducted. Search terms focused on the kno…

A notable increase in the incidence of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) has been observed in recent years. This trend may be attributed to a combination of factors, including increased public awareness, improved diagnostic techniques, and a greater emphasis on early childhood oral health. Clinically, MIH initially presents as white-to-brown opacities without enamel loss, progressing to post-eruptive breakdown in severe cases, often accompanied by hypersensitivity and atypical caries that may lead to pulp involvement. MIH treatment requires a correct clinical assessment of the tooth as th

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Oral diseases affect about 3.5 billion people worldwide, with periodontitis being a major concern due to its potential to cause tooth loss. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which infects most of the global population, is linked to several cancers and may contribute to periodontal disease. Growing evidence suggests a significant role of the EBV in the etiopathogenesis of periodontitis. The aim of the study was to assess the EBV load in saliva and crevice-gingival fluid (CGF) in patients with periodontitis. The study also took into account the clinical stage of periodont…

UNLABELLED: White spot lesions (WSLs) are demineralized lesions of the enamel that form in the presence of bacterial plaque, affecting the aesthetics by modifying the refractive index of the enamel, giving the characteristic "chalky" aspect. They have various causes, including fixed orthodontic treatments, improper hygiene, fluorosis and genetic factors.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Considering the latest need for dental aesthetics and the popularization of fixed orthodontic treatments, the need to effectively treat WSLs has increased. The objective of this research is to review the development of

Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease that causes the periodontal bone destruction and may ultimately result in tooth loss. With the progression of periodontitis, the osteoimmunology microenvironment in periodontitis is damaged and leads to the formation of pathological alveolar bone resorption. CD301b+ macrophages are specific to the osteoimmunology microenvironment, and are emerging as vital booster for conducting bone regeneration. However, the key upstream targets of CD301b+ macrophages and their potential mechanism in periodontitis remain elusive. In this study, we concen…

Bone resorption following tooth loss might compromise retention, stability, and support of conventional removable prostheses, and for this reason, implant-supported overdentures are suggested as a viable alternative for completely edentulous patients. Bars, telescopic attachments, or stud attachments have been used to provide retention through a different mechanism of action based on specific design characteristics. The purpose of this report is to thoroughly describe the applied protocol for the fabrication of an implant overdenture supported by two bars incorporating stud attachments. A 67-y…

Dentoalveolar abscess are localized infections within the tooth or the surrounding alveolar bone, often resulting from untreated dental caries or dental trauma causing alveolar bone resorption or even loss. Serious consequences arising from the spread of a dental abscess can often lead to significant morbidity and mortality. The acute dentoalveolar abscess is a polymicrobial infection comprising strict anaerobes, such as anaerobic cocci i.e., Prevotella fusobacterium species, and facultative anaerobes i.e., Streptococci viridians and Streptococcus anginosus. Moreover, inappropriately managed d

The destruction of periodontal alveolar bone (AB) caused by periodontitis is regarded as one of the major reasons for tooth loss. The inhibition of bone resorption and regeneration of lost AB are the desirable outcomes in clinical practice but remain in challenge. The use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is one current approach for achieving true restoration of AB defects (ABD). Antler stem cells (AnSC) are capable of renewing a huge mammalian bony appendage, the deer antler, suggesting an unparalleled potential for bone regeneration. Herein, we investigated the effectiveness of deer AnSCs con…

There is still no effective drug treatment available for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). Current management relies on rehabilitation therapy, surgery for skeletal deformities, and symptomatic treatment. The challenge is to find disease-modifying therapies. Several approaches, including gene silencing (by means of ASO, siRNA, shRNA, miRNA, CRISPR-Cas9 editing), to counteract the PMP22 gene overexpression in the most frequent CMT1A type are under investigation. PXT3003 is the compound in the most advanced phase for CMT1A, as a second phase-III trial is ongoing. Gene therapy to substitute defe

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that is the main cause of tooth loss in adults, and the key to periodontitis treatment is the repair and regenerate of periodontal bone tissue. Psoralen is the main component of the Psoralea corylifolia Linn, which shows antibacterial, anti-inflammatoryand osteogenic activities. It promotes the differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells toward osteogenesis. Exosomes secreted by stem cells play important roles in information transmission during the osteogenic differentiation process. The aim of this paper was to investigate the role of pso…
