Background/Objectives: Surgical resection remains an important treatment option for selected patients with bronchiectasis who have persistent symptoms, recurrent pulmonary infections, or hemoptysis despite medical therapy. This study evaluated perioperative and follow-up outcomes after pulmonary resection for bronchiectasis in a predominantly video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)-treated cohort. Methods: This retrospective single-center cohort included patients who underwent pulmonary resection for bronchiectasis between January 2009 and January 2026. Baseline and follow-up data were ana

Primary thymic papillary adenocarcinoma (PAT) is an exceptionally rare epithelial malignancy that poses substantial diagnostic challenges due to its non-specific radiological presentation and highly heterogeneous immunophenotype. The present study reports a case of early-stage PAT in a 48-year-old man with a long-standing history of rheumatoid arthritis. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a 3.3-cm, well-circumscribed, lobulated anterior mediastinal nodule demonstrating homogeneous contrast enhancement, radiologically mimicking a benign thymic cyst or thymoma. Following complete resection

INTRODUCTION: Intrathoracic gauze packing is an established damage control technique for life-threatening thoracic hemorrhage in trauma settings. However, its role in nontraumatic coagulopathic bleeding remains unclear, and the mechanisms underlying packing failure have not been well characterized. We report a case in which intrathoracic packing failed due to an unrecognized diaphragmatic injury, highlighting an important limitation of this strategy.

BACKGROUND: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is the standard treatment for small pulmonary nodules (SPNs), yet accurate localization of non-palpable lesions remains challenging. This study evaluated the efficacy, feasibility, and safety of a novel computed tomography (CT)-guided microcoil localization system for preoperative SPN management.
METHODS: We developed a novel CT-guided microcoil system featuring a coaxial needle and a retractable coil with a long, visible distal tail to improve stability and intraoperative identification. In this prospective single-arm study, 178 patient

BACKGROUND: Penetrating thoracic and abdominal trauma presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge in the emergency department (ED). Traditionally managed with open laparotomy or thoracotomy, advances in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) have enabled safe, effective, and rapid diagnosis and intervention. We present a case series of four patients with penetrating gastric, hepatic, and pulmonary injuries successfully managed using MIS, highlighting its role in emergency care.
CASE PRESENTATIONS: Four hemodynamically stable patients presented to the ED with penetrating abdominal or thoracic tr

INTRODUCTION: Group C Beta Haemolytic Streptococcus (GCBHS) rarely causes invasive infection but is associated with high mortality. Pneumonia is common; however, severe necrotising pneumonia is very rare, and no previous cases complicated by pyopneumothorax have been described. Associations with male gender and animal exposure have been previously reported in the literature.
CASE: A 20-year-old male agriculture student with no past medical history presented with 6 days of productive cough and fever and 2 days of shortness of breath, chest pain, and confusion. He presented with clinical signs

BACKGROUND: Accurate staging of mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is essential to determine further management. Current guidelines recommend confirmatory mediastinoscopy for patients with suspicious mediastinal lymph node metastases in image-based staging but negative findings on endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA). In clinical practice, adherence to these recommendations is low and many physicians omit invasive surgical staging. This study aimed to assess the results of subsequent video-assisted mediastinoscopi

We report the case of a 70-year-old man who presented with a two-month history of cough. He had a history of asbestos exposure. Chest imaging revealed a mass on the right upper lobe, bilateral hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathies, bilateral pleural thickening, and partial calcification of the right pleura. Lung cancer and asbestos-related pleural disease were suspected initially. However, neither transbronchial lung biopsy nor computed tomography-guided percutaneous needle lung biopsy demonstrated evidence of malignancy. Subsequent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery revealed storiform fib

There is a lack of training curricula and educational concepts for robotic-assisted surgery (RAS). It remains unclear how surgical residents can be trained in this new technology and how robotics can be integrated into surgical residency training. The conception of a training curriculum for RAS addressing surgical residents resulted in a three-step training curriculum including multimodal learning contents: basics and simulation training of RAS (step 1), laboratory training on the institutional robotic system (step 2) and structured on-patient training in the operating room (step 3). For all t

Chylothorax, despite being a common complication after thoracic surgery, is rare after thoracic sympathectomy, especially on the right side of the thorax. We present a case of a patient who developed a right chylothorax after a thoracoscopic sympathectomy due to the presence of an anomalous thoracic duct located on the right side of the patient's chest. A 37-year-old woman underwent a bilateral video-assisted thoracic sympathectomy for the treatment of primary focal axillary hyperhidrosis. During the postoperative period, there was an excessive discharge of a white, milky fluid through the che

BACKGROUND: Chylothorax is an uncommon condition defined by the escape of lymphatic fluid into the pleural space originating from the thoracic duct.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Our case involves a male patient in his 60s who developed traumatic chylothorax after being involved in a bicycle collision. The total body computed tomography (CT) showed multiple fractures of the ribs and spine, including a fracture of the anterior column of the Th12 vertebra. The patient was placed under observation in the intensive care unit and because of the instability of the Th12 fracture operative stabilization was perf

BACKGROUND: Complexities in TNM staging in epithelioid malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) may lead to errors in treatment selection, leading to major surgical interventions in patients with low survival expectations.
METHODS: Sixty-nine stage I epithelioid MPM patients, including 27 patients treated with pleurectomy/decortication (P/D) and multimodal therapy (MMT) (the P/D [MMT] group), and 42 patients treated with chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy (the CRT group), were included in the study. After an initial evaluation of overall survival, all patients were grouped in terms of histopatholo

BACKGROUND Chylothorax is a rare condition caused by the leak of chyle into the pleural cavity. Malignancy, especially advanced lymphomas, are the most common non-traumatic causes of chylothorax. When thoracentesis and the following pleural effusion studies reveal the fluid to be a chyle, it is important to look at the patients' history and understand the possible etiological factors, as the appropriate management can differ. In some instances, the true reason behind the chylothorax can be a diagnostic challenge, as presented in this case. CASE REPORT We report a case of a patient in her 70s p

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 20% of lung nodule (LN) patients have more than one moderate-to-high malignant risk LNs. When performing one-stage video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in patients with multiple LNs, the ability to simultaneously localize all of these nodules is critical to operative success.
AIM: To explore the efficacy and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided indocyanine green (IG) localization for multiple ipsilateral LNs.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 278 LN patients who underwent CT-guided IG localization prior to VATS resection. Of these
