Equilibration patterns of barbiturates adsorption on activated charcoals were studied using aqueous solutions of barbital and sodium barbital and commercially available charcoals BAU, AR-3, AR-B, AR-A, SKT-6A. The adsorptive properties of four charcoals have been examined in relation to their value as adsorbents in filters attached to an anaesthetic trolley. Data for four anaesthetics have been obtained. The test conditions (flow rate, concentration, humidity) were those relevant to the application, and the effect of variation of these conditions was also studied. The air flow resistance of the charcoals was measured. Basic data are thus provided for the design of suitable adsorbers. The performance of two prototype anaesthetic adsorbers has been measured.

Vermiculite was subjected to acid treatments in HNO3, HCl, and a mixture of both acid solutions to improve its physicochemical properties for CO2 adsorption. The accumulation of Vi-antigen in the human body was studied with the use of such characteristic as the specific adsorption capacity of red blood cells. This parameter was shown to depend on the phenotype in the ABO blood group system. In cases of typhoid fever an increase in the adsorption capacity of red blood cells was observed at the acute period of the disease. These changes were particularly manifest in patients belonging to groups O and A. The authors suggest that the adsorption of the antigen on red blood cells has a definite kinetics related to the dynamics of the infectious process.

The first step of the lipase-catalyzed hydrolysis of insoluble long chain triglycerides is the adsorption of the enzyme to the interface. This adsorption, which is spontaneous when the interface is hydrophobic, is hindered by bile salts. Under these conditions, a small protein cofactor designated colipase adsorbs first and then anchors lipase at the interface.
