Angiofibroma Localized in the Sphenoid Sinus.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is the most common benign tumor of the nasopharynx with complaints of unilateral nasal obstruction and recurrent nosebleeds in the young male population. Despite being a benign tumor, it can be aggressively destructive in surrounding tissues and bones by acting locally. The gold standard treatment method is the surgical excision of the tumor. This case report is a case of angiofibroma, a 32-year-old asymptomatic male patient with no evidence of clinical signs and endoscopic examination, which is recognized as a localized vascular mass lesion in the right sp…

Cellular Angiofibroma of the Spermatic Cord.

Cellular angiofibromas are rare, slow-growing mesenchymal tumours, most often localised in the vulva and perineum of women. We present a case of a 60-year-old male with a 7-cm large cellular angiofibroma in the inguinal canal extending toward the testis, detected after inguinal herniorraphy. Inguinal orchiectomy was performed and the pathology report revealed a cellular angiofibroma containing a lot of mast cells in the stroma, which was collagenised with spindle-shaped cells and characterised by hyalinised vascular structures. The localisation and nature of this type of mass makes initial dia…

Giant Angiofibroma of the Scrotum in a Child.

We present a unique case of angiofibroma of the scrotum in a 3-year-old child. A previous red plaque has been observed in the same region since the neonatal period. The boy underwent total excision of the mass. We suggest a close follow-up of any erythematous lesion of the genital region; in case of rapid increase, it is important to proceed to prompt surgical excision.

Tuberculosis of nasopharynx masquerading as angiofibroma.

Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a rare entity. We present a case of nasopharyngeal tuberculosis in an adolescent male which masqueraded as angiofibroma because of its clinical presentation and radiological features. Histopathology played a critical role in proper management of the case. We report this case because of its atypical presentation and clinical rarity.

Juvenile angiofibroma of the maxillary sinus.

Juvenile angiofibromas are benign fibro-vascular tumours of the nasopharynx that develop in prepubertal and adolescent males. Typical symptoms are longstanding unilateral nasal obstruction occasionally followed by epistaxes and frequent severe intraoperative haemorrhage of the discovered mass. We report the case of a 14-year-old boy histologically diagnosed with a juvenile angiofibroma in spite of the atypical localisation of the polyploid mass of the left maxillary sinus.

The nature of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to investigate the nature of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. STUDY DESIGN: Twenty-five excised tumors were studied morphologically to confirm the histopathologic features of the tumor. METHODS: Paraffin sections of all tumor specimens were stained with hematoxylin-eosin for elastic fiber, polyclonal antibody to factor VIII-related antigen and monoclonal antibodies to smooth muscle actin, estrogen receptor, and progesterone receptor. A quantitative assessment of the vascular component changes was also performed in 14 cases. Ultrathin sections of 5 t…

Extraorbital giant cell angiofibromas.

We herein describe two unusual neoplasms showing histopathologic features consistent with those of giant cell angiofibroma, which was originally described as a neoplasm arising in the orbit in adults: one of them arose in the right submandibular region of a 48-year-old woman and the other in the right parascapular region of a 49-year-old woman. Macroscopically, although the latter was characterized by a lymphangioma-like cystic appearance, both tumors were well circumscribed and encapsulated. Microscopically, in both cases, pseudovascular spaces lined by a discontinuous row of multinucleated c…

Nasopharyngeal angiofibromas: hazards of embolization.

A systematic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of angiofibromas is presented. The distinction between true and false internal carotid supply to these tumors as well as identification of vascular anatomical variants that may represent potential hazards of embolization are emphasized. Areterial supply to the cranial nerves, prevention of neurologic complications, and the use of inappropriate embolization materials are also discussed.

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma: Maxillary Swing Approach.

INTRODUCTION: The maxillary swing approach is a very efficient surgical procedure for treating advanced-stage juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). It allows wide access to the pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa, and skull base, allowing for the entire removal of malignancies with considerable local extension. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and outcomes of the maxillary swing technique for the treatment of extensive nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. An observational study on the presenting features, surgical technique, outcomes, and compli…

Radiotherapy for recurrent juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare paediatric tumour known for its local destructiveness and high recurrence rate. Surgery is the primary treatment modality for JNA, though other options, such as hormonal therapy, embolisation and radiotherapy, exist for inoperable cases. The location of the tumour makes surgical intervention challenging. A 14-year-old male presented with epistaxis and headaches as the chief complaints and was diagnosed with nasopharynx angiofibroma by computed tomography (CT) scan in 2018. Pre-operative embolisation was performed and followed by surgical rem…

'Juvenile' nasal angiofibroma presenting in adulthood.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas (JNAs) are rare hyper vascular, benign tumours typically demonstrating a locally aggressive growth pattern. The cardinal presenting symptoms are unilateral nasal obstruction and recurrent, spontaneous epistaxis. Cases outside the adolescent male population are exceedingly rare and present a diagnostic challenge. We present the case of a man in his 30s referred to our tertiary skull base centre, presenting with left nasal obstruction. Examination showed left nasopharyngeal fullness without a discrete mass. Cross-sectional imaging detailed a 2.5×2.1×1.3 cm m…
