The authors present a 2-year-old boy with a skin defect located in the right lateral side of the neck. They suggest the defect is a partial failure of disappearance of the second pharyngeal (branchial) cleft and propose a name of lateral cervical cleft.

Branchial cleft cyst, also known as a benign lymphoepithelial cyst, is a congenital disorder with an unclear pathogenesis. It most commonly occurs in the anterior triangle of the neck along the upper third of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, while occurrences at other sites are exceedingly rare. Diagnosis through ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging is challenging. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) enables the acquisition of complete specimens, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of such lesions. This study presents a case of an esophageal branchial cleft cyst t

PURPOSE: Second branchial cleft cysts have usually been resected through a prominent incision over the entire protruding zone. The resultant scar can be esthetically displeasing. We report on the endoscope-assisted excision of second branchial cleft cysts by way of a posterior occipital approach. We explored the feasibility, validity, and safety of this procedure.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From November 2008 to February 2011, 8 patients with second branchial cleft cysts underwent endoscope-assisted resection by way of a posterior occipital approach using an endoscopic technique.
RESULTS: All th

A lymphoepithelial cyst (LC) is a rare occurrence in the oral cavity, lined by a keratinized stratified squamous epithelium that is surrounded by diffuse lymphoid tissue, that often contains lymphoid follicles. The clinical aspect of oral LC includes an asymptomatic yellowish nodule (less than 10 mm) with regular surface and soft consistency. It usually affects the floor of the mouth and the ventral and posterolateral surfaces of the tongue in adult male patients. To date, approximately 280 cases of LC in the oral cavity have been reported in the literature; however, none of them appear bilate

We report a case of complete branchial fistula in an 18-year-old woman which could be demonstrated by a contrast study. The tract was completely excised and the patient had an uneventful recovery. Branchial fistulae are formed due to the persistence of the embryonic second branchial cleft. Complete fistulae with the internal opening in the region of the tonsillar fossa are not common.

The etiology of lateral cervical cysts in infancy is complex. The cysts are congenital in origin and are derived from the third or fourth branchial apparatus. The authors describe two cases of congenital lateral cervical cysts with an internal opening in the pyriform sinus and possible origin in the third branchial arch. The embryology, clinical presentation, and operative management of this condition is reviewed.

A case of a serous cyst in the external auditory canal is reported, which is believed to be the first such occurrence in the reported literature. Its possible relationship to the first branchial cleft cyst is discussed. The lesion was marsupialized and did not recur during a period of two years' observation.
