Bronchogenic cysts are the most common cystic masses in the mediastinum. They are generally asymptomatic and are detected incidentally on chest radiographs as a smooth homogeneous mediastinal/pulmonary opacity. Intrapleural, intraesophageal, and pericardial rupture of these cysts have been commonly reported. We report a case of life-threatening intrabronchial rupture of a subcarinal bronchogenic cyst successfully treated by an emergency thoracotomy deroofing.

This case report demonstrates the dangers of assuming the accuracy of a neonatal diagnosis of asthma, that is not responsive to medical therapy, and highlights the value of CT imaging.

Bronchogenic congenital cysts are uncommon. They most frequently develop into the lung parenchyma. Rarely, mediastinal site may occur due to intestinal origin. Bronchogenic cysts seldom arise in the posterior mediastinum. Computerized tomography of the chest allowed a diagnosis of a posterior mediastinal bronchogenic cyst in our patient with poor symptoms. Cyst aspiration and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) also provide the diagnosis. Treatment is by surgical excision if symptoms occur and have good prognosis.

Bronchogenic cysts are uncommon developmental anomalies of the primitive foregut that can produce symptoms of ventilatory compromise in infants and children. A 2-month-old child presented with episodes of stridor and obstructive apnea due to a bronchogenic cyst compressing the trachea and causing near-total obstruction. Aspiration of the cyst during bronchoscopy resulted in severe bradycardia (from 140 to 50 beats per minute), although blood pressure was stable and oxygen saturation remained at 100%. Subsequent elective thoracotomy revealed the cyst to be intimately associated with the vagus n…

A bronchogenic cyst causing cardiac tamponade is a rare condition. We report an unusual case of a bronchogenic cyst that caused cardiac tamponade. A 49-year-old female patient presented at our emergency room with complaints of palpitations and shortness of breath that had lasted for 5 days preceding the visit. Echocardiography revealed a very large cystic mass compressing the left a trium posteriorly, and a large amount of pericardial effusion caused the diastolic collapse of the ventricles. Atrial fibrillation and aggravated dyspnea were observed, and the patient's vital signs were unstable a…

Bronchogenic cyst, also known as inclusion cyst, is a type of congenital endodermal heterotropia derived from an abnormal development of the ventral diverticulum of the foregut or the tracheobronchial tree during embryogenesis. Its interatrial localization is extremely rare and making a final diagnosis without surgery challenges the clinician. Herein, we report a 58-year-old male patient who had an interatrial bronchogenic cyst related to transient ischemic attack.

We report an adult patient who masqueraded as a case of gastroesophageal reflux disease for over 6 years. On close questioning he was found to have severe constricting pain in the retrosternal region and non progressive dysphagia for 6 years. Cineradiography of the oesophagus and CT scan chest revealed a large bronchogenic cyst compressing the oesophagus and the trachea. Excision of the cyst relieved the symptoms.

A central bronchogenic cyst was excised thoracoscopically from a 44-year-old woman in whom a tumor had been pointed out in the left upper posterior mediastinum at a screening examination. Since the tumor was diagnosed to be benign, only conservative follow-up was undertaken, but the patient consulted our department desiring active therapy. On the basis of the chest CT and MRI findings a bronchogenic cyst was diagnosed. Under general anesthesia and mechanical ventilation of one lung, the thoracoscope was inserted into the thoracic cavity revealing in the left upper posterior mediastinum a cyst …

A child with a bronchogenic cyst is described who manifested clinical findings indicative of pulmonary arterial stenosis. Compression of the right pulmonary artery by the cyst with a significant pressure gradient between the proximal and distal segments of the right pulmonary artery was verified at surgery. The post-operative follow-up findings have confirmed relief of the stenosis with absence of the murmur originating from it.

Bronchogenic cysts are uncommon congenital malformations of the tracheobronchial tree, and are rarely found in the neck. Diagnosis is often difficult to make based on clinical features, pre-operative imaging and cytology, and are often mistaken for thyroid cysts when they are adjacent to the thyroid.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare lesions that form during early embryogenesis and are commonly located in the mediastinum. Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts (RBs) are exceptionally rare, with only a handful of cases reported in the modern literature. Here, we report an RB found incidentally on imaging in a patient with suspected nephrolithiasis. We also review the unique imaging and histopathological findings of this entity and discuss why prophylactic surgery is considered the treatment of choice.

A 75-year-old male visited a clinic with the chief complaint of pollakiuria. A computed tomography scan revealed, a left adrenal mass, and the patient was then referred to our hospital. Since a malignant tumor could not be ruled out. We performed laparoscopic left adrenal resection. Postoperative histopathological findings revealed the mass to be a bronchogenic cyst, which had no continuity with the normal adrenal gland. The postoperative course was uneventful, and recurrence has not been observed. Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are rare and often difficult to diagnose preoperatively using…

Bronchogenic cysts arise from abnormalities of the tracheobronchial tree occurring during the early stages of embryonal development. They are most often found in the posterior mediastinum. Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are infrequent and intrapancreatic bronchogenic cysts extremely rare. We present a case of an asymptomatic, intrapancreatic bronchogenic cyst which was an incidental finding during the urological workup of a 61-year-old man.
