Calcifications in idiopathic calcinosis cutis are most commonly localized to one area. We herein report a 66-year-old woman with idiopathic calcinosis cutis who unusually exhibited widespread calcific deposits. In this report, we will also briefly discuss the pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, and current treatment of this disease.

We report a case of calcinosis cutis in a 41-year-old man developing after liver transplantation at sites where no intravenous calcium had been administered. The cutaneous lesions developed on his right upper arm 10-days post-transplantation. The patient had received calcium chloride solution intravenously after surgery. We excluded other causes of ectopic calcification such as hyperparathyroidism, renal failure, and extravasation of calcium chloride.

Milia-like idiopathic calcinosis cutis is a rare entity. Only 17 cases have been reported so far. Two-thirds of these have been associated with Down syndrome. We report the fifth case occurring in a child without Down syndrome. Milia-like idiopathic calcinosis cutis has long been regarded as a peculiar subtype of idiopathic calcinosis cutis. The pathogenesis of the disorder remains unclear.

We report the first case of calcinosis cutis following electromyographic examination. All previously reported cases of iatrogenic calcinosis cutis occurred following electroencephalographic examination using calcium-containing electrode compounds or following the extravasation of calcium-containing solutions along infiltrated intravenous lines. We also review the literature on calcinosis cutis due to iatrogenic and occupational exposure to calcium salts. An eleven year old child with dermatomyositis and calcinosis cutis universalis is presented. She showed heliotrope bloating of eyelids, Gottrons sign, proximal muscle wasting with contractures and extensive areas of calcification over the shoulder, pelvic girdles and proximal extremities. The dignosis was confirmed by biochemical and histopatholo "cal studies as 91 well as electromyography. High doses of steroids and supportive measures made the patient ambulatory.

We report on an infant with severe asphyxia and persistent pulmonary hypertension as a newborn. The baby received prolonged intravenous calcium gluconate therapy for hypocalcemia. At 5 weeks of age, multiple firm, indurated areas (armor-like lesions) were palpable in the subcutaneous tissues of the trunk, arms, legs, and face, particularly in skin folds. A case of calcinosis cutis is presented in a patient with hypercalcemia of unknown etiology. The axillae and inguinal areas were involved and the clinical and histologic picture is compared with pseudoxanthoma elasticum. We propose that the similarities between the two diseases stem from a common origin in damaged elastic fibers.
