To ensure success in reproduction, organisms dedicate substantial resources to supporting the germline. In testes, somatic gonadal cells form a barrier that isolates germ cells from circulating nutrients, raising the question of how germ cell metabolism is sustained and how somatic cells ensure sufficient resources are directed to the germline. Mast cell leukemia (MCL) is a rare and aggressive form of systemic mastocytosis. There are approximately 50 reported cases since 1950s. MCL is refractory to cytoreduction chemotherapy and the average survival is only six months. The nasal NK/T cell lymphoma is a rare, extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma in western civilizations, which has poor prognosis. The Epstein-Barr virus can be detected in tumor cells in nearly all cases. There are no definite treatment guidelines in our days. There is no significant difference in survival between radiotherapy and chemotherapy according to Asian studies. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical and laboratory features of adult sickle cell anaemia patients in Nigeria.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional study.
SETTING: Haematology clinic of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria.
SUBJECTS: Sixty nine adult sickle cell anaemia patients randomly sampled.
RESULTS: The mean steady state haematocrit, HbA2 and HbF were 22%, 4.6% and 7% respectively. Twenty five per cent of the patients had never received blood transfusion and a similar proportion recorded an infrequent occurrence of painful crises.

In a series of 506 patients with renal cell carcinoma survival was analyzed in terms of pathologic stage, histologic grade, and a combination of stage and grade. Data reveal that stage, grade and the combination are important prognostic indicators. Invasion of the renal pelvis is not an important factor in staging the disease.
