Four hundred stool samples obtained from two different primary school students were examined for intestinal parasite. Cellophane tape technique was also applied in order to detect the Enterobiasis incidence. It has been observed that the parasite incidence were 13.5% in TED College Students whereas 30.5% in the Incesu Primary School. It has been also concluded that the highest infection rate was connected with two parasites, namely Giardia intestinalis (11.5%) and Enterobius vermicularis (8%).

OBJECTIVE: Results of 17.711 patien admitted to the Department of Parasitology in Celal Bayar University Hospital for parasitological stool examination between January 2006 and December 2010 were evaluated.
METHODS: All stool samples were examined with wet mounts, formalin ethyl acetate concentration and trichrome staining methods. In addition, cellophane tape preparations from 5952 patients were evaluated.

OBJECTIVE: Intestinal parasite infection is still an important public health problem. In this study, patients (outpatients and in-patients) with various gastrointestinal system complaints presenting at various clinics of the Uludag University Medical Faculty, from January 2009-December 2010 were investigated retrospectively for intestinal parasites.
METHODS: Parasitological examinations were done with native-lugol, cellophane-tape methods and trichrome staining in ambiguous cases. Also modified Erlich-Ziehl-Nielsen staining was used to identify Cryptosporidium spp.

Antimicrobial spectrum of 45 cultures of the S. coelicolor group with respect to closely related strains and other streptomycete species was studied. The spectrum of 7 cultures was narrow and they inhibited closely related strains and certain streptomycete species. These cultures produced antibiotic substances of bacteriocin-like nature. The bacteriocin-like substances of the cultures differed in sensitivity to temperature and proteolytic enzymes and capacity for dialysis through cellophane membranes. Biosynthesis of the antibiotic substances increased after exposure to UV light.

Treatment of trichuriasis with mebendazole 500 mg for three days, and 100 mg twice daily for three days, yielded cure rates of 93.9 and 88.9% in Thai patients, while the cure rates in Karen patients were 96.2 and 95.5% respectively. The total number of Thai and Karen trichuriasis patients were 60 and 48, when tested by modified cellophane thick smear Kato-Katz technique. There were no significant differences among the two groups of patients and doses of treatment (p > 0.05).

CASE SUMMARY: A 1-year-old female intact Scottish Fold cat was presented with a 1-month history of excessive hair shedding with white scales on the coat without pruritus. A 24-year-old lady presented to an evening genitourinary (GU) clinic with a short history of vulval and anal irritation. On perianal examination, several threadworms were visible. Symptoms resolved with oral mebendazole and strict personal and environmental hygiene. Threadworm is a common and easily treatable cause of pruritus ani, yet is underreported in GU literature. If the history is suggestive, consider performing the diagnostic cellophane test and/or prescribing empirical treatment.

The transfer process of salicylic acid through a cellophane membrane is studied. The active component is formulated as a semisolid emulsion (O/W) for external local application. Different theoretical mathematical models are applicable to the experimental data obtained in order to find the mathematical expressions which define the transfer kinetics. Later on, comparative studies of these mathematical models are carried out in order to choose the one which better defines the whole transfer process.

The Kato-Katz (KK) method is a well-known method of fecal examination for helminthiases. Its diagnostic sensitivity was found very high for clonorchiasis. The present study evaluated the correlation of Clonorchis sinensis egg counts by the KK method with those by direct smear and formalin-ether (FE) technique. The egg counts obtained by the KK method (Y) were correlated with the counts by direct smear (X) with the equation of Y = 659.4 + 0.266X (r2 = 0.738), but not with those by the FE method. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of intestinal parasites and ectoparasites among the students of three primary schools of different socioeconomic levels in Elaziğ. At first, a total of 448 students who attend different schools were examined for ectoparasites and then stool and cellophane tapes were collected. A woman developed an inner lamellar macular hole and cellophane maculopathy as a complication of chronic cystoid macular edema following cataract extraction. PURPOSE: To estimate the frequency of epiretinal membrane (ERM) in eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) treated with Ex-Press shunt implant. Secondarily, we aimed to assess the role of concomitant cataract surgery and the impact of the ERM on central foveal thickness and macular volume.
METHODS: In this prospective, consecutive, case-control study, we enrolled 54 patients affected by PAOG and scheduled for Ex-Press device implant with or without contemporary phacoemulsification. Contralateral eyes affected by POAG and receiving anti-glaucomatous eyedrops constituted the control group.

In order to investigate the epidemiological situation of intestinal parasite infections in Laos, parasitological surveys were carried out on a national scale including 17 provinces and the Vientiane Municipality.
