BACKGROUND: Weber-Christian disease is a controversial entity that histologically presents as a lobular panniculitis. A systemic variant of this disorder, in which visceral fat is affected, has been reported.
OBJECTIVE: A 29-year-old woman with Weber-Christian disease developed a rapidly enlarging abdominal mass during hospitalization for a flare of her skin condition. The mass resolved spontaneously. Radiographic studies demonstrated a mesenteric cyst, which was thought to represent involvement of mesenteric fat by Weber-Christian disease.
CONCLUSION: The appearance of an abdominal or pelvi

A review of Weber-Christian syndrome in infancy is presented along with the report of two cases. Both infants had low serum properdin levels, and one patient showed remissions of his disease when he was T-lymphocytopenic. This suggests that the T-lymphocyte may have an important role in the pathogenesis of Weber--Christian syndrome.

It is reported on five cases of Weber-Christian's syndrome which were observed in our institute during the last years due to difficulties involving motion organs. In three of the cases short-term arthritis was found and in one of the cases erosion arthritis of rheumatoid type was found, too. As far as the last case is concerned detailed information on the system manifestation of the patient is given; the disease started in her young days with regular relapses and visceral manifestation. At the same time typical morphologic changes in the subcutaneous fatty tissue and in the liver as well as cl

A patient suffering from Weber-Christian panniculitis was found at necropsy to have similar lesions in the visceral adipose tissue. When the lesions occur internally, diagnosis during life is complicated by the difficulty of examining visceral adipose tissue and the disease may often go unrecognized, but patients suffering from Weber-Christian panniculitis should be investigated bearing in mind the possibility of internal lesions. Only 11 cases confirmed by necropsy appear to have been reported hitherto. The aetiology remains obscure. It is suggested that the name ;systemic Weber-Christian dis

Frederick Parkes Weber described relapsing nonsuppurative panniculitis in 1925. In 1928, Henry Asbury Christian added the word "febrile" (relapsing febrile nodular nonsuppurative panniculitis), whereas Brill first coined the eponym "Weber-Christian disease" in 1936. This article traces the lives of Parkes Weber and Henry Christian and summarizes their original publications. It addresses only briefly the controversy as to whether Weber-Christian disease does or does not exist.
