The results of 19 urographic follow-up studies 6-15 months following vaginal or abdominal radical pelvic operation are reported. Compared to the first follow-up studies 1-7 weeks after the operation which always showed stenosis of the pelvic ureters with various degrees of urinary retention about one half of the cases showed improvement of the stenoses and normalization of the ureteral function later on even when marked urinary retention was found earlier on. The authors report a series of eight cases of isolated tracheoesophageal fistula without esophageal atresia (or an H type fistula), treated in three pediatric ENT departments. This is a rare malformation whose diagnosis requires investigation for associated anomalies. The clinical signs are mainly respiratory but also digestive and the symptomatology can be severe. Thirty patients with shoulder disorders were examined with fluoroscopy under general anesthesia. Birds and crocodylians, the only living archosaurs, are generally believed to employ pelvic girdle movements as a component of their respiratory mechanism. This in turn provides a phylogenetic basis for inferring that extinct archosaurs, including dinosaurs, also used pelvic girdle breathing. However, during early infancy the epiglottic cartilage appears to play an important role in separating the upper respiratory tract from the upper digestive tract. This separation is accomplished by approximation of the epiglottis to the palate, providing a continuous airway from the nose through the larynx into the trachea. Primary cricopharyngeal achalasia (a = absence, chalasia = relaxation) is a rare cause of swallowing disorders in newborns.
