Closed reduction of the isolated anterior frontal sinus fracture via percutaneous screw placement.

Fractures of the frontal sinus are a common maxillofacial trauma and constitute 5-15% of all maxillofacial fractures. Conventional surgical approaches include the coronal flap, direct cutaneous incision, and endoscopic techniques. Minimally invasive techniques have recently been described for the reduction of the isolated anterior frontal sinus fracture via a closed approach. The medical records and radiological findings of all patients who underwent surgical treatment for anterior frontal sinus fractures from January 2009 to December 2013 at the study hospital in Florence, Italy, were reviewe

A Novel Device for Closed Reduction and Percutaneous Fixation of Thoracolumbar Fractures.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Open surgical reduction/fixation of thoracolumbar fractures results in significant soft-tissue trauma and related complications. Minimally-invasive technical developments could deliver similar radiological outcomes, while avoiding the related complications. We evaluated radiological and perioperative outcomes in thoracolumbar fractures by using a novel minimally-invasive device. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twenty-six patients with 29 thoracolumbar fractures using the NForce device were analyzed. Postoperative reduction and alignment were assessed by radiographic measurement of the l

Closed reduction of severely displaced radial neck fractures in children.

BACKGROUND: Severely displaced radial neck fractures in skeletally immature children are rare and can be difficult to reduce. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results using our reduction maneuver. METHODS: From October 2011 to December 2015, 26 children with radial neck fractures(O'Brien type II, III and Judet type III, IV) were treated at our institute. All patients underwent percutaneous K-wire leverage and radial intramedullary pinning in an average surgery time of 35 mins (15-80 min). The injured arm was immobilized at the functional position with plaster for 4-6 weeks, evalua

Management of Pediatric Forearm Fractures After Failed Closed Reduction.

Pediatric and adolescent forearm fractures account for nearly 40% of all fractures in childhood. The incidence of these fractures has increased over the past decade with a 10-fold increase in surgical intervention. A thorough physical examination of the upper extremity, with plain radiographs of the forearm, should be obtained to make the diagnosis. The primary modality of management for closed both-bone forearm fractures is a closed reduction if needed and long arm immobilization. Patients should be followed up weekly, for at least 3 weeks, to ensure maintenance of fracture alignment. Failure

Reduction of Closed Frontal Sinus Fractures through Suprabrow Approach.

BACKGROUND: The traditional approach for reduction of frontal sinus fractures is coronal incision. Inherent complications of the coronal approach include long scar, hair loss, and long operation time. We describe a simple approach for the reduction of frontal sinus anterior wall fractures using a suprabrow incision that is commonly used for brow lift. METHODS: From March 2007 to October 2016, the authors identified patients with anterior wall frontal sinus fractures treated by open reduction through a suprabrow incision. Only cases with photographic/radiographic documentation and a minimum fo

Intranasal midazolam for anxiolysis in closed reduction of nasal fractures in children.

OBJECTIVES: Nasal fractures can result in obstruction of the nasal airflow and cosmetic deformities, and are treated either with observation, closed reduction, or a delayed rhinoplasty. In the pediatric patient, closed reduction is challenging due to anxiety and poor patient cooperation. Here, we describe the unique topical use of intranasal midazolam for anxiolysis in two pediatric patients at the time of closed reduction of nasal fractures, which has not been previously described. METHODS: Retrospective case series. RESULTS: In this case series, intranasal midazolam was used in two pediatr

Closed reduction and percutaneous fixation of anterior column acetabular fractures.

OBJECTIVE: The current standard treatment of anterior column acetabular fractures includes formal open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) through a variety of anterior approaches. These approaches have been associated with significant blood loss, infection, lengthy operative times, and neurovascular complications. It therefore seems reasonable to consider less invasive alternatives to conventional treatment methods. A technique for percutaneous reduction and fixation of a particular acetabular fracture pattern is presented. Execution of this technique has been facilitated by the use of im

The morbidity associated with fifty maxillary fractures treated by closed reduction.

Fifty patients with maxillary fractures treated by closed reduction over an 85 month period at a Level I trauma center were reviewed. Thirty patients (60%) experienced forty-one midfacial complications. The most frequent problems were infraorbital nerve paresthesia (12), enophthalmus (5), septal deviation (3), and altered vision (3). No relationship could be established between complications and age, sex, cause of injury, or the method of suspension used. Most complications were related to concomitant injury or the concurrent management of fractures of other facial bones. Only eight problems (

Clinical practice for closed reduction of distal radius fractures in Denmark.

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are common, with over 14,000 annual cases in Denmark. Most cases are treated non-surgically and may require closed reduction prior to casting. National guidelines for anaesthesia and reduction technique for closed reduction of DRFs are lacking, impacting clinical practices and potentially optimal care. This survey aimed to describe Danish clinical practice for initial treatment and closed reduction of DRFs. METHODS: Between January and April 2025, the survey was distributed online to the 23 physicians responsible for all 44 emergency departments an

Closed reduction of nasoseptal fractures: key concepts for predictable results.

Nasal complex injuries are the most common facial fracture encountered in the trauma population. Multiple surgical techniques for treatment of these fractures have been described with varying results. The goal of this study was to review the efficacy of closed reduction of nasal and septal fractures using a technique based upon several key concepts. We reviewed the records of patients who had undergone isolated nasal and/or septal fractures with closed reduction at our institution between January 2013 and November 2021. Inclusion criteria consisted of preoperative CT imaging, surgical treatmen

Closed Reduction of Pediatric Distal Radial Fractures and Epiphyseal Separations.

BACKGROUND: Sedated, closed reduction of a displaced distal radial fracture followed by cast immobilization is indicated in cases of unacceptable alignment on post-splint imaging. The aim of this procedure is to obtain acceptable reduction and cast immobilization for fracture-healing. DESCRIPTION: The patient is positioned supine with the injured arm on the image intensifier. Adequate sedation is achieved with conscious sedation, general anesthesia, or regional anesthesia (hematoma block). The radial or ulnar translation is corrected with in-line traction. The wrist is typically hyperdorsifle
