Atresia of the colon is among the rare types of all gastrointestinal atresias. Ascending colon is the rarest site of all the colonic atresias. The authors report a case of a 4-day-old male baby who presented with the features of distal intestinal obstruction. At laparotomy type I atresia of the ascending colon, just distal to cecum, was found. Primary ceco-colic anastomosis along with a covering ileostomy was performed. Ileostomy was reversed 3 weeks later.

Twelve cases of acute solitary diverticulitis of the cecum or ascending colon are reviewed. This is frequently indistinguishable from acute appendicitis preoperatively and is often mistaken for carcinoma at laparotomy. There are subtle clinical features that may help to suggest the diagnosis both before and during surgery. If diagnosed preoperatively, it can be treated effectively with broad spectrum antibiotics without surgical intervention. When diagnosed intraoperatively, hemicolectomy can often be avoided. Appendectomy should be done if resection is not performed.

Anomalies of the peritoneum and the colon are quite common. Some of these anomalies can disturb the normal digestive and absorptive functions of the intestine and the others might result in formation of volvulus or impede the blood supply of the intestine. We report a rare, combined variation of peritoneum and ascending colon. In a 70-year-old male cadaver, the greater omentum was very small and extended only for about an inch below the transverse colon. From its lower end, a fibrous band extended to the right wall of the upper part of ascending colon. There was a deep constriction on the righ

Primary liposarcoma of the colon is extremely rare in the literature. We present a case of a 51-year-old male patient with recurrent ascending colon liposarcoma, which caused obstructive ileus, just a few days prior to his scheduled elective operation and led us to expedite his surgery. The procedure was scheduled to be a robotic right colectomy. After finishing the operation and extracting the specimen, the tumour could not be detected; hence, an exploratory laparotomy was performed. Findings were a large tumour in the sigmoid colon, causing complete obstruction. Sigmoidectomy was performed,
