Prediction of breadth of permanent canines and premolars in the mixed dentition.

Multiple stepwise regression was used in the selection of mixed dentition variables capable of predicting the total breadth of the unerupted permanent canine and premolars. The material consisted of 77 children. Stone casts were made before and after eruption of the canine and premolars. At the first examination when the children were, on the average, 10 years old, intraoral roentgenograms were obtained of the canine and the premolars. To predict the total breadth of the upper canine and premolars the buccolingual breadth of the upper first permanent molar and measurements on roentgenograms of

Applicability of Moyers analysis in mixed dentition: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Moyers analysis is widely used for analyzing mixed dentition, however, the accuracy of its theoretical probability tables has been recently questioned. Taking into consideration the fact the mixed dentition analysis is of paramount importance to precisely determine the space needed for alignment of canines and premolars, this research aimed at objectively assessing in the literature such an important step for orthodontic diagnosis. METHODS: A computerized search involving articles published on PubMed and Lilacs between 1990 and September, 2011 was conducted in accordance with th

Treatment of an "ankylosed" upper central incisor in the mixed dentition.

A ten-year-old boy presented with an unerupted upper right central incisor (UR1). An OPG radiograph showed a supernumerary tooth lying over its crown, preventing its eruption. Standard orthodontic treatment involving removal of the supernumerary tooth, attaching a gold chain to the UR1 and treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances failed to bring the tooth down, until it was found that tough fibrous gingival tissue entwined in the gold chain had "ankylosed" the tooth. Once this tissue had been removed and the wound packed open, the tooth was brought down successfully into occlusion.

[Individual variability in the duration of the second phase of the mixed dentition].

With a collection of dental casts from a longitudinal study of 175 orthodontically untreated probands (100 children without and 75 children with premature loss of deciduous molars and/or canines) serving as a base, the duration of the second period of mixed dentition was determined to be in relation to the probands the period of time between the gingival emergence of the first permanent buccal tooth and the full eruption of the set of teeth. The second period of mixed dentition in boys without premature loss of deciduous molars and canines lasts on an average 3.6 +/- 1.1 years and in girls 3.8

Robust oriented object detection for posterior teeth in mixed dentition.

The mixed dentition stage presents significant diagnostic challenges in panoramic radiography due to the high structural density and spatial superposition of primary roots and developing permanent germs. Traditional horizontal bounding box (HBB) detection methods suffer from a “geometric mismatch,” failing to accurately localize tilted teeth in crowded dentitions. This study aims to develop and validate a high-precision oriented object detection (OBB) framework to resolve these localization ambiguities. A retrospective dual-center study was conducted utilizing 1,148 panoramic radiographs. A sp

Suspended circummandibular wire fixation for mixed-dentition pediatric mandible fractures.

OBJECTIVE: To introduce and evaluate the technique of cirummandibular wires with piriform rim suspension (CMW-PRS) combined with arch bars and a fracture site bridle in the treatment of mixed-dentition pediatric mandible fractures. DESIGN: Five male patients (mean age, 8.2 years [age range, 7-10 years]) with an isolated mixed-dentition mandible fracture were treated with the CMW-PRS technique at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, from 1985 to 1987 and at the University of Missouri, Columbia, from 1992 to 1995. Clinical and radiographic fracture healing, somatosensory

Mixed dentition treatment with cervical traction and lower lingual arch.

The quantitative changes which occurred as the result of this specific regimen of treatment in a sample of Class II malocclusions in the early mixed dentition were compared with like changes in a closely matched sample of untreated Class II malocclusions. Selected parameters were also compared with a comparable group of Class II malocclusions treated with only a Kloehn cervical appliance. Treatment as described does tend to slightly increase the vertical eruption of the upper molar. No maxillary orthopedic effects were noted in the horizontal plane. There was significant inhibition of the forw

Deep learning detection of ectopic canines and molars in mixed dentition.

Ectopic eruption (EE) during the mixed dentition is a significant dental anomaly that requires early detection to prevent complications that may impact function, aesthetics, and health. Advances in artificial intelligence point to the need for automated methods to detect ectopic canines and molars. This study aimed to develop a DL model to automatically detect EE of canines and molars on panoramic radiographs. This retrospective study utilised a dataset of panoramic radiographs from pediatric patients in the mixed dentition stage. EE of canines and molars was defined using angular and position

Assessment of Factors Associated with Mandibular Anterior Crowding in Mixed Dentition.

INTRODUCTION: Dental crowding can be defined as a disparity in the relationship between the tooth size and arch length, which results in imbrication and rotation of teeth. Crowding of permanent teeth, especially in the anterior part of the mandible, is believed to be the most frequent form of malocclusion in children. The appropriate age for treatment of crowding is the late mixed dentition period. AIM: To assess and compare the dental and skeletal factors associated with early crowding and non-crowding in children with mixed dentition. Methodology: This experimental cross-sectional study was

Association between 2 indexes for evaluating malocclusion in the mixed dentition.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to associate 2 indexes for evaluating malocclusion in the mixed dentition. METHODS: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted involving 743 children aged 8-10 years, divided into early and late mixed dentition. The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) and criteria proposed by Grabowski were used to evaluate malocclusion. Associations between the DAI (outcome variable) and the other independent variables (gender, race, and mixed dentition stage) were analyzed using logistic regression models. Simple logistic regression models were constructed, estimating the

Correlations between Malocclusion and Postural Anomalies in Children with Mixed Dentition.

The aim of this study was to investigate the possible relationship between malocclusion and body posture anomalies. The original sample involved 127 children (45 males and 82 females) with mixed dentition. Clinical examination of oral cavity was performed by an orthodontist, who recorded molar and canine relationship, cross-bite, lower middle-line deviation, and centric relation (CR) considering mono or bilateral contacts in CR. Orthopedic examination of the body posture was clinically carried out by an orthopedist who detected anomalies such as scoliosis, false scoliosis or paramorphism, kyph

Primary failure of eruption: Clinical and genetic findings in the mixed dentition.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that mutations in the parathyroid hormone 1 receptor ( PTH1R) include effects in both primary and permanent teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: DNA was extracted from saliva samples of 29 patients (8 familial and 21 sporadic) who presented with clinical evidence of infraoccluded teeth, and their unaffected relatives (N = 22). Sequencing followed by mutational analysis of the coding regions of PTH1R gene was completed for all individuals (N = 29). RESULTS: Eight of 29 cases revealed a heterozygous pathogenic variant in the PTH1R gene; five of eight variants represe

Orthodontic Treatment Need of Austrian Schoolchildren in the Mixed Dentition Stage.

Malocclusal traits can impair dental health and aesthetical appearance. The index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN) identifies the patients who benefit the most from orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the malocclusion frequencies and the orthodontic treatment need among Austrian children in the mixed dentition stage, since there is no pre-existing data from Austria. In the present study, 157 children aged between 8 and 10 years were examined. Following an anamnesis questionnaire, which included a question about the parents' perceived treatment need, the children were
