The results of a dipstick assay for the detection of immunoglobulin M (IgM) to Brucella smooth lipopolysaccharide (S-LPS) correlated with those of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for IgM and of the serum agglutination test (SAT) performed with and without dithiothreitol. Two sera which were dithiothreitol-sensitive and were dipstick negative were shown to contain specific IgA. The dipstick assay is recommended as a simple method for detecting specific IgM antibodies in acute-phase brucellosis patients.

The refolding patterns of erabutoxin b (a neurotoxin) and cardiotoxin 3.10.2 (from Naja naja siamensis venom) have been studied by reducing both the proteins by treatment with reduced dithiothreitol followed by renaturation by treatment with oxidised dithiothreitol. Isoelectric focusing of the samples trapped at varying time intervals during renaturation of the proteins reveals formation of intermediates in the folding pathway with cardiotoxin 3.10.2. having fewer intermediates than erabutoxin b and faster rate of refolding (1 hr and 3 hr respectively).

Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) proteins were sequentially extracted from ground seeds with Tris-HCl buffer, 55% 2-propanol, 55% 2-propanol containing 1% dithiothreitol, and 6 M urea containing 2% Nonidet P-40 and 1% dithiothreitol. The protein composition of these solubility fractions was then analyzed by high resolution two-dimensional gel electrophoresis with immobilized pH gradient 4-9 in the first dimension, followed by silver staining and glycoprotein blotting, respectively, for a more detailed characterization of the two-dimensional polypeptide pattern of barley seed proteins.

In this paper we studied the properties of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA lyase (HMG-CoA lyase) in human skin fibroblasts. The enzyme was found to exhibit an absolute requirement for divalent cations such as magnesium. Furthermore, dithiothreitol was necessary for full activity. The enzyme was found to be maximally active at pH 9.25.
