Epidermal Cyst Mimicking Thyroid Cancer Metastasis.

A 26-year-old woman with pulmonary metastasis of thyroid cancer underwent a total thyroidectomy and cervical lymph node dissection followed by 2 courses of 131I therapy. The posttherapeutic whole-body scan after the second dose of 131I therapy showed diffuse tracer uptake in both lungs. Besides this, there is a local abnormal radiotracer uptake in the left axillary region. SPECT/CT images localized this abnormal radioactivity in a subcutaneous, oval-shaped, approximately 2.2-cm slightly hyperdense lesion, which was pathologically confirmed as an epidermal cyst.

Penile Epidermal Cyst: A Case Report.

Epidermal cysts also known as epidermoid cysts, is one of the common benign tumours presenting anywhere in the body. However, epidermal cyst in the penis is very rare. This condition in children is usually congenital due to abnormal embryologic closure of the median raphe; hence, it is termed as median raphe cysts (MRCs). Penile epidermal cysts may occur in adults following trauma or surgery due to epidermal elements being trapped within closed space. During wound healing, trapped squamous epithelium, undergoing keratinisation leads to cyst formation. Here, we report a rare case of patient wit…

Two rare presentations of epidermal cyst.

Epidermal cysts are very rare. It is more common in males than in females and the most common site of presentation are the hairy sites. We came across two rare cases of epidermal cysts. In one case, a parous lady presented with an adnexal mass and D/D of broad ligament fibroid or ovarian mass was considered which turned out to be a cyst containing cheesy pultaceous material. In the other case, a parous lady presented with a mass arising from the posterior fourchette that contained cheesy pultaceous material on excision. In both cases histopathology confirmed it to be epidermal cysts. Epidermal…

[Epidermal cyst of the parotid gland].

Epidermoid cysts of the parotid gland are rare. We report the case of a 60-year-old man with a cystic tumor of the right parotid gland. The patient had undergone ipsilateral middle ear surgery twice four years previously. The tumor was identified by computed tomography and ultrasonography and removed by total parotidectomy under suspicion of a parotid tumor. Histopathology revealed the diagnosis of an epidermal cyst. The differential diagnosis of a parotid tumor should include (iatrogenic) epidermoid cyst, in particular if there is a history of prior ear surgery via an endaural approach.

Epidermal inclusion cyst of the larynx.

Epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) is a benign cyst filled with keratin fibers, which can develop in any part of the body. It is commonly seen in the skin, especially on the face, scalp, neck, and trunk, and has the tendency to slowly grow toward deeper epidermis parts and to cause cystic expansion. Epidermal inclusion cysts are not common in mucosal sites such as the larynx; however, these can arise owing to squamous metaplasia of the glands. We present a 52-year-old man with a laryngeal EIC. This is a very rare case in the literature of EIC in the larynx.

Presternal giant epidermal cyst: 2 cases.

BACKGROUND: Epidermal cysts are a common benign lesion, occurring often above the shoulder and within the face and the scalp. Presternal site and huge volume are quite rare, especially in children. AIM: The authors report on two paediatric cases, discuss etiopathogenesis and diagnostic difficulties. CASES: A 2, 5 and 3-year-old boys were admitted for voluminous subcutaneous tumour of the chest. The lesions had appeared since neonatal period with rapid growth after a minimal trauma for the last year. The physical examination found a great presternal cystic mass of 70 mm in diameter which is p…

Epidermal inclusion cyst of the breast.

Epidermal inclusion cysts are uncommon in the breast, but the consequences can be severe when these cysts occur in the breast parenchyma. Here, we report two such cases. The patient in case 1 was an 85-year-old woman with a 3-cm palpable mass in the right breast. Mammography revealed a round and smoothly outlined mass, which indicated a benign tumor, and sonography showed an irregularly shaped and heterogeneous hypoechoic mass. Breast cancer was suspected on the basis of the sonographic findings and the age of the patient, but excisional biopsy revealed an epidermal inclusion cyst. The patient

Giant epidermal inclusion cyst of buttock.

Epidermal inclusion cyst is a common benign soft-tissue lesion of skin. It often presents as a small lesion, but rarely grows to a large mass. We are presenting a giant gluteal epidermal inclusion cyst that grew to an enormous size, masquerading as a large soft-tissue neoplasm. Magnetic resonance imaging not only displays the size and margins of these well-encapsulated lesions in three planes, but shows characteristic internal features that may suggest the preoperative diagnosis.

Nasopharyngeal epidermal cyst in a dog.

Plain film radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and histologic evaluation were used to diagnose nasopharyngeal epidermal cyst in a 12-year-old male Miniature Poodle with inspiratory stridor. The cyst was lined with stratified squamous epithelium, with variable keratinization. Most of the epithelium was well-differentiated and supported by a fibrovascular tissue separating it from underlying woven bone. One margin of the mass had a transition from stratified squamous to columnar respiratory epithelium. Other reported epidermal cysts in dogs have been confined to the middle ear or intracrani…

Epidermal inclusion cyst of the heel.

An inclusion cyst develops from the introduction of epidermal fragments into a heterotopic location, where it grows through accumulation of epithelial and keratinous debris. This is caused by a combination of increased physical activity and the imposition on the site. Inclusion cysts are seen most frequently in younger and more active patients, rather than in older individuals. This case is unique because the epidermal inclusion cyst occurred on the plantar aspect of the foot of an elderly, sedentary patient who had not sustained any injury to the area.

[Isolated epidermal cysts of the vulva].

Vulvar cysts are rare und benign entities. They are epidermoid cysts which may develop following trauma or surgery. They can also spontaneously develop. They vary in number and size. They grow slowly and tend to show calcification. The treatment consists of surgical removal. Other methods are pinch-punch excision, heat application, and incision.
