OBJECTIVE: To present a case of unrecognized female epispadias.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: University-based reproductive endocrinology and fertility clinic.
PATIENT(S): A 16-year-old girl with epispadias, history of mild urinary incontinence, auditory neuropathy, and functional hyperandrogenism.
INTERVENTION(S): None.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Peripheral blood array-based comparative genomic hybridization.

UNLABELLED: Epispadias associated or not to bladder extrophy is a congenital malformation with a difficult surgical correction. Mitchell published his technique in 1996, and it's based in the complete dissection of the uretheral band, ventral peneal skin and both corporas including their proximal insertion, that in next steps will be separated in all the length. These manoeuvres permit to: 1) Correct the dorsal incurvation; 2) Locate the urethra in a ventral position; 3) Locate the meatus at the tip of the penis with a vertical orientation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have performed these surgic…

In female epispadias complete repair of the wide and short urethra and bladder neck abnormalities facilitate achievement of bladder regrowth with adequate bladder capacity and urinary continence. Attention must be given to correct the appearance of malformed anatomy of the external genitalia which is of importance for later sexual function. Eight cases are described of congenital female epispadias and incontinence treated during the years 1964-1995. Of these patients, 2 had had failed previous procedures. Eight patients underwent bladder neck plasty and creation of an adequate urethral channel…

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the pathological characters and anatomic correction of penile epispadias.
METHODS: The urethra was formed by local urethra plate mucosa flaps. The contracture on dorsum of penis was released by cutting off the superficial suspensory ligament to reposition the penile and urethral sponge.
RESULTS: From Jun. 2004 to Dec. 2010, 26 cases with penile epispadias were treated. 18 cases were followed up for 6 months to 5 years. 10 cases were treated successfully with good cosmetic and functional results. Urinary incontinence happened in 8 cases, which healed after tightening…

Single-stage reconstruction of female epispadias produced gratifying functional and cosmetic results and complete urinary control in 10 out of 12 patients (83%). Factors critical to the achievement of complete continence in these children include deferment of surgery until the patient is at least 3 years of age and a well-developed bladder with adequate capacity and musculature. Because complete continence is often delayed several weeks to months postoperatively in these children, expectant management and observation are necessary to allow enlargement of bladder capacity, which enhances succes…
