Of two patients with discoid lupus erythematosus with eyelid involvement, one, a 42-year-old man, had a one-year history of persistent periorbital edema and a violaceous discoloration as the sole manifestation. Although treatment with corticosteroids and antihistamines failed to produce improvement, the patient had an excellent clinical response to systemic hydroxychloroquine therapy. Histologic examination with immunofluorescent staining demonstrated deposition of immunoglobulins at the dermoepidermal junction. The floppy eyelid syndrome represents a chronic conjunctivitis characterized by a triad of (1) a loose upper lid that readily everts on elevating the lid, (2) a soft rubbery tarsus that can be folded on itself, and (3) a diffuse papillary conjunctivitis. Seven cases of this condition are reported, all involving men, and four involving obese patients.

A 2-year-old black Nigerian infant presented with eversion of the upper eyelids which followed an episode of presumed measles conjunctivitis. Eversion recurred despite patching and taping, but was terminated by facial akinesia and placement of lid sutures. Orbicularis spasm undoubtedly plays a role in the pathophysiology of this disorder, acting together with other etiologic factors.

BACKGROUND: Spacer grafts in the eyelid are used in both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. The authors report their experience using a new acellular porcine dermal graft (Enduragen) in 129 eyelids.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed that included every case in which Enduragen was used by the two primary authors in the upper or lower eyelid. Patient demographics, type of procedure performed, and complications were reviewed.

A 5-months-old female baby with Down's Syndrome developed an intermittent spastic ectropion of the upper eyelids. The reasons for this are thought to be the flaccidity of the connective tissue, which is typical in Down's Syndrome, and a little anomaly of the eyelids, the tarsus was too short horizontally and very weak and the upper eyelids were somewhat larger than normal and elongated. Suturing Bangerter's lid-sheets on the upper eyelids for 15 days resulted in a scarring of the tarsus with the lax connective tissue of the upper eyelids. The ectropion disappeared and did not recur.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Adequate cycloplegia and dilation are required for refraction and fundus exam in children. Standard practice is to instill cycloplegic drops in the inferior cul-de-sac, and this is often traumatic for children. Congenital bilateral ectropion of the upper eyelids is a rare, benign condition reported in ophthalmic literature. It is more frequently associated with Down's syndrome, ichthyosis, and sporadic cases in newborns from black population. We report three cases of congenital bilateral upper eyelid ectropion associated with Down's syndrome. We report on a 20-year-old women, who suffered from discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) beginning on her eyelids with dyschromia and cutaneous infiltration. Similar signs appeared on the top of her nose, her nostrils, and her lower lip. Simultaneously with these alterations, we found a superficial exulceration on her hard palate, which histologically proved typical for DLE. After therapy with chloroquine for 3 weeks, the alterations disappeared.
