Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune thyroid disease with characteristic lymphocytic infiltration and fibrosis. Chronic autoimmune changes that occur in the thyroid gland in HT may also affect the lacrimal gland. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze tear biomarkers and explore correlations between these biomarkers and clinical ocular parameters in patients with HT. Methods: A total of 150 participants were divided into three groups: HT (N = 50), non-HT DED (N = 50), and healthy controls (N = 50). The participants underwent a series of diagnostic tests for DED, including the Ocular

In recent years, research has increasingly focused on inflammatory processes as a trigger for psychiatric illnesses. Contrary to previous suggestions, clinical pictures with psychiatric features only also can occur, leading to erroneous diagnoses and treatments. We describe the case of a patient who was initially diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia on the basis of the clinical presentation. Antipsychotic treatment was frequently discontinued by the patient also due to inadequate response. After intensifying the diagnostic procedures autoimmune thyroiditis oft he Hashimoto type was detected in the

Early histological changes in the thyroid gland were examined in 30 patients with juvenile thyrotoxicosis, by means of needle biopsy. Based on the degree of lymphocytic infiltration and degenerative changes in follicular epithelium, results were classified into four groups. A: hyperplastic changes without cellular infiltration (6 patients, 20%); B: hyperplastic changes with areas of focal thyroiditis less than 30% of specimen (10 patients, 33%); C: those with 30 to 60% areas ot thyroiditis (10 patients, 33%); D: almost diffuse thyroiditis (4 patients, 13%). Moderate to severe lymphocytic thyro

INTRODUCTION: Autoimmune Thyroiditis (AIT) is caused by defects in the immune system in people with a genetic predisposition to the disease. The most prevalent type of autoimmune thyroiditis is Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). The present article reviews the possible relationship between α2-macroglobulin levels and autoantibodies in patients suffering from Hashimoto's disease.
METHODS: A total of 170 patients with Hashimoto's disease, categorized into subclinical (96 patients) and manifest (74 patients) forms, were enrolled in the study. The control group comprised 65 individuals without thyroid

INTRODUCTION: Mood can be characterized as subjective, relatively long lasting emotional state. The impact of the mood on health can be considered in two aspects: mood as an intermediary factor/cause of disease or as its result. The aim of following paper was to define the mood of individuals with Graves-Basedow's disease Hashimoto's disease in comparison to each other and in comparison to healthy individuals.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 70 individuals with Graves-Basedow's disease (56 women and 14 men) and the same amount of healthy ones. The study group of Hashimoto's

We previously reported the presence of thyroid hormone autoantibodies (THAA) in the sera from three (2 Hashimoto's thyroiditis, 1 Hashimoto's thyroiditis suspected) out of four sisters in a family and one patient with Graves' disease during treatment with methimazole (MMI). According to the investigations of the binding of labelled thyroid hormones, endogenous and/or therapeutic thyroid hormones interfered with their binding with THAA. This interference, however, was excluded when the sera were acidified with a 0.05M glycine-HCl buffer (pH 2.1) and all the liberated thyroid hormones were absor

Background and Clinical Significance: The co-occurrence of Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT), Graves' disease (GD), and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is an extremely rare event and offers a unique opportunity to examine how chronic autoimmune thyroid disease may interact with the process of thyroid cancer development. Case Presentation: We present the case of a 42-year-old female with long-standing autoimmune thyroid disorders who developed progressive Graves'-related orbitopathy that did not improve with corticosteroid therapy. Owing to persistent hyperthyroidism and worsening orbital symptoms,

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a benign and self-limited disease characterized by fever and lymphadenopathy. The etiology of KFD is unknown, but an autoimmune cause has been suggested. Hashimoto thyroiditis is the most common autoimmune thyroid disorder in children and is known to be associated with other autoimmune diseases. Only a few cases of Hashimoto thyroiditis associated with KFD have been documented. We report a case of a 16-year-old girl who was first diagnosed with KFD and developed Hashimoto thyroiditis 2 years and 6 months later during her follow-up period. Physicians of patient

Thyroid gland dysfunctions can adversely affect patients' systemic health and well-being. Thyroid disease is the most common endocrine disorder. Recognizing early signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism is crucial in the early diagnosis of hypothyroidism. Oral health care providers must obtain comprehensive medical records from patients with hypothyroidism before dental treatments.

A woman in her 50s was referred with suspected thyroid malignancy and underwent total thyroidectomy. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed IgG4-positive Hashimoto's thyroiditis. IgG4-related thyroid disease is poorly understood, and thought to encompass various entities including IgG4-positive Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Fibrosing Variant of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Reidel's thyroiditis and Graves' disease with elevated IgG4 levels. Furthermore, it may be associated with a systemic fibrosing condition called 'IgG4-related sclerosing disease'. The clinical significance of IgG4-positive thyroid dis

OBJECTIVE: The conversion of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) to hyperthyroidism due to thyrotropin receptor antibodies is intriguing and considered rare. The contribution of TSH receptor blocking antibodies (TRAb), which may be stimulators (TSAb) or blockers (TBAb), is suspected. We describe clinical and biological variables in a series of patients switching from Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Grave's disease.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Retrospective case study of 24 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis followed during 48 ± 36 months that developed later Graves' disease (GD). These variables were analys

The aim of this case-control study was to evaluate carotid hemodynamic variables and traditional cardiovascular risk factors in women with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). The study group consisted of 31 females with HT on levothyroxine (L-T4) and 26 euthyroid women with HT without L-T4 matched for age and body mass index (BMI) as controls. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), carotid extra-media thickness (CEMT), and pulsatility indexes in common carotid artery (PI CCA) and in internal carotid artery (PI ICA) were measured. BMI, waist circumference, lipid profile, fasting glucose and insulin lev

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common autoimmune disease involving the thyroid gland. HT often clinically manifest as hypothyroidism due to the destruction of thyroid cells mediated by humoral and cellular immunity. The pathogenesis of HT is a complex process in which environmental factors, hereditary inclination, trace elements immune factors, cytokines, and DNA and miRNA all play an important role. Herein, we summarize the precision factors involved in the pathogenesis of HT and offer an update over the past 5 years to provide a theoretical basis for further investigation of the re

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a known autoimmune disorder that leads to chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland, with a gradual decline in function and eventual hypothyroidism. Conversion of Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves' disease is unusual clinically and has been occasionally reported in the literature. Awareness of such a rare phenomenon is important for the physicians evaluating patients with autoimmune thyroid disorders. Close investigation of the patient's symptoms and biochemical status is crucial in the implementation of appropriate treatment.

In its early course, Hashimoto's disease may present as thyrotoxicosis (Hashitoxicosis). This usually manifests as elevated free T4 and suppressed thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). We report the unusual occurrence of an elevated T3 level in a patient with Hashimoto's disease. A 27-year-old woman presented with an incidental finding of elevated free T3 levels, normal free T4 levels, and low TSH levels, which were confirmed with follow-up testing. Her only medication was a birth control pill. There was no family history of thyroid disease. Physical examination was normal. She tested positive fo

We report a 9-year-old female who presented with new onset intractable seizure activity followed by a prolonged encephalopathic state. After ruling out common etiologies, Hashimoto's encephalopathy (HE) was considered, and antibody levels to thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin were both markedly elevated in her serum. She was euthyroid at the time of presentation. Upon treatment with high dose methylprednisolone, the patient demonstrated a significant improvement in her encephalopathy. The diagnosis of HE requires strong clinical suspicion with evidence of antithyroid antibodies, as well as a
