Indium is increasingly used in a variety of industries, and while there are few studies of its developmental toxicity, ther are no reports of its potential reproductive toxicity. These studies were undertaken to investigate the possible reproductive toxicity of indium and to determine the relative vulnerability of males and females. We used, initially, a 21-day combined developmental/reproductive toxicity protocol. Oral exposures to InCl3 ( < or = 250 mg/kg) were without effect on the male reproductive system or liver. We report on the demonstration of nonspecific accumulation of indium-111 capromab pendetide (ProstaScint) in neurofibromas in a patient with a rising prostate-specific antigen level after prostatectomy. Although the immunoconjugate is targeted to a specific membrane antigen present in human prostate carcinoma, nonspecific uptake can occur in other entities. Indium-111 capromab pendetide scintigraphy is a valuable diagnostic tool that should always be interpreted within the context of the clinical history and the laboratory and radiologic findings to avoid misinterpretation.

We evaluated platelet accumulation in carotid arteries by means of a dual-radiotracer method, using indium-111-labeled platelets and technetium-99m-labeled human serum albumin, in 123 patients (92 men, 31 women; median age 60 years). Sixty patients had symptoms of transient ischemic carotid artery disease, and 63 patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease served as controls. A patient with severe alcoholic liver disease, in whom there was almost complete suppression of function of the reticuloendothelial system of the liver as noted on a 99mTc-SC scan is discussed. Obstructive biliary disease was suggested on 131I-rose bengal imaging. Recent studies of sulfides have highlighted their potential for exploring unique superconductors under pressure. Here we combine crystal structure predictions with ab initio calculations on the crystal structures, electronic structures and superconducting properties of the In-S system within 80 GPa. We predicted six unique In-S sulfides within five stoichiometries. Herein, we describe the formation of silica structures on indium tin oxide (ITO) surfaces using poly-L-lysine (PLL) to template the condensation of silicic acid. Precisely controlled electrostatic fields were used to preposition PLL onto ITO surfaces. Subsequent polypeptide-mediated silicification resulted in the formation of silica with concentration gradients that followed the pattern of the externally applied electrostatic field used in the deposition of the PLL. In order to detect the infectious foci in a case of terminal recurrent cancer of the sigmoid colon with intense inflammation, In-111 oxine leukocyte scintigraphy was performed.
