RATIONALE: Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) accounts for 30% of liposarcomas and typically arises in the thigh, but rarely arises in the popliteal fossa. Managing giant, neurovascular-abutting MLS in young adults is poorly characterized.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 35-year-old man presented with a right popliteal mass growing over > 6 years, accompanied by progressive swelling and incomplete flexion of the right knee. He denied smoking, denied alcohol use, and had no family history of malignancy.
DIAGNOSES: magnetic resonance imaging showed a 179 × 154 × 99 mm multilocular cystic-solid lesion abutting/partl

Adriamycin-based chemotherapy is commonly used for malignant soft tissue sarcoma including myxoid liposarcoma. However, in the case of unavailability or failure of the adriamycin-based regimen, trabectedin or eribulin can produce a good antitumor effect for myxoid liposarcoma. We relate the experience of a 64-year-old female with myxoid liposarcoma, who noticed a nodule on her left thigh and visited our institute. At initial presentation, the tumor was 18.7 cm in diameter, and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a malignant lipomatous tumor with a myxoid component. We recommended that

BACKGROUND: Liposarcomas are the second most common type of soft tissue sarcomas, 30-50% of these are of myxoid subtype. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the local control rate, the metastatic pattern and survival of patients in a consecutive single-institution series.
METHODS: From 1983 to 2015, 43 patients with myxoid liposarcoma of the extremities and trunk wall underwent resections. The margin was defined as R0 (wide) or R1 (marginal). Patients were followed for evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis. Overall and recurrence-free survival was calculated.

Liposarcoma is the name given to a group of soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) with adipocytic differentiation. As a group, liposarcomas are the second most common STSs in adults. In 1951 Kozonis et al published that in the English language only four cases of liposarcomas originating in the mediastinum had been described. Primary mediastinal liposarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm of intrathoracic origin. We present the case of a 47-year-old woman diagnosed with a large mediastinal mass with intrapericardial invasion and massive pericardial effusion; biopsies showed a mediastinal liposarcoma.

We present the case of a 58-year-old male with a history of smoking and hypertension, who was diagnosed with and treated for a myxoid liposarcoma of the right thigh. After undergoing surgical resection with negative margins and adjuvant radiotherapy, the patient remained asymptomatic. During a scheduled two-year routine imaging follow-up, a suspicious mass was identified in the right ventricle, incidentally detected on a surveillance scan without preceding clinical symptoms, leading to the diagnosis of metastatic cardiac myxoid liposarcoma. Multimodal imaging, including echocardiography, CT sc

INTRODUCTION: Liposarcoma, one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas, originates from primitive mesenchymal cells. However, spinal involvement of liposarcoma, whether primary or metastatic, is rare. According to literature reports, myxoid/round cell liposarcomas are the most common types affecting the spine. Spinal liposarcomas, whether primary or metastatic, have only been sporadically reported.
CASE PRESENTATION: The author presents an unusual case of recurrent myxoid liposarcoma originating from the erector spinae muscle, infiltrating the upper thoracic spine in a 65-year-old female. The

Paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma is an exceedingly rare malignancy originating from the spermatic cord or paratesticular tissues. We report a unique case of a 75-year-old male patient who presented with a painless scrotal swelling that had been growing for four years. Imaging investigations, including ultrasonography (USG) and contrast-enhanced computerized tomography (CECT), revealed characteristics consistent with paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma. The orchidectomy specimen confirmed a grade 2 right paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma. Despite its rarity, clinicians must consider this tumor i

Liposarcomas are a group of malignancies that mainly affect adults. Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPL) is a newly added subtype of liposarcomas [1]. It is extremely rare and mostly affects infants and children, and it has a predilection for the mediastinum. We report a case of a 58-years-old female with MPL originating from the falciform ligament who presented initially with vague abdominal pain. MPLs have an aggressive pathology and high metastasis and recurrence potential.

RATIONALE: Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPL) is a rare aggressive adipocytic tumor that mainly presents in children and adolescents. It is most frequently observed in the mediastinum and rarely in the head and neck, perineal region, or back. Herein, we report the first published case of MPL of the teres minor muscle.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 24-years-old woman presented with a painless palpable mass in her right shoulder.
DIAGNOSES: Magnetic resonance imaging identified a 9.0 × 7.0 × 4.0 cm mass suspected to be a sarcoma in the teres minor muscle. Positron emission tomography/computed tomograp

Liposarcomas are considered to be the most common soft tissue sarcomas and have five histological subtypes. The myxoid subtype often occurs in the lower limbs and the retroperitoneum; however, the abdominal wall location is extremely rare. The clinical presentation and radiological findings are non-specific. Wide local excision with a minimum margin of 3 cm remains the mainstay of treatment to prevent local recurrences. We herein report a rare location of myxoid liposarcoma in the abdominal wall.

Non-angiomatous-non-lymphomatous sarcomas (NANLs) represent 23%-34% of canine primary splenic sarcomas. Splenic liposarcomas account for 2%-6% of NANLs but myxoid variants are rarely reported and information on their behaviour is fragmentary. An 8-year-old male crossbreed (case 1), a 12-year-old female French bulldog (case 2), and an 11-year-old crossbreed (case 3) underwent splenectomy after the detection of a splenic nodule. Histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed. Bundles of spindle-to-polygonal cells containing occasional c

Retroperitoneal sarcomas are rare neoplasms that account for only 1%-2% of all solid tumors and liposarcomas represent the most frequent histological type. We describe the case of a 44-year-old female with a retroperitoneal myxoid liposarcoma of 22 × 19 × 8 cm in size. The only symptoms were persistent pain and progressive tenderness of the abdomen lasting for two months. The mass was radically excised during laparotomy. CT and MRI were useful to clarify the site of origin of the tumor, relationships with other organs, and planning surgery but final diagnosis was based on histological findings

UNLABELLED: Five cases per year. Of those cases 50% are located in the extremities and 40% are located in the trunk and retroperitoneum. Primary mediastinal liposarcomas represent less than 1% of mediastinal tumors.
CLINICAL CASE: A 53 year old female, native and resident of Tabasco, with a history of anterior mediastinal tumor was treated with resection at the National Institute of Cancerology about 16 years ago with histopathological diagnosis of pleomorphic liposarcoma. She started her condition with chest pain, cough and hyaline expectoration, managed as pneumonia in her unit. Other sympt

We report a patient with myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord in whom combined use of both ultrasound (US) and MRI helped to suggest the diagnosis. The lesion was solid at US and vascularized at color Doppler. T1-weighted MRI did not show fat within it; on T2-weighted images it had high signal intensity, with a cyst-like appearance. It is known that fat-poor myxoid liposarcomas with high water content may mimic a cystic lesion on non-contrast-enhanced MR; then, a combination of MRI findings, suggesting a cyst, and of US findings, showing the mass was actually solid and vascularized, allowe

Myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord (MLSC) is a rare variance of spermatic sarcomas, with only 14 previous cases having been reported. Typically it presents during the seventh decade of life as a painless scrotal or inguinal mass. Although local recurrences are not uncommon, prognosis following complete tumour removal is good because metastases are rare. We describe one new case of a 24-year-old male with incidental MLSC found during inguinal hernia repair, and also review the existing literature.

Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPLPS), a rare, aggressive liposarcoma subtype, is thought to occur chiefly in adolescents with a mediastinal predilection. MPLPS lack DDIT3 rearrangements or MDM2 amplification; a small number have recently been shown to harbor widespread copy-neutral loss of heterozygosity (cnLOH). We studied a large series of MPLPS and compared them with other sarcomas, particularly other liposarcomas. Available slides/blocks for cases coded as "MPLPS" were retrieved (2008-2026). We also searched our single-nucleotide polymorphism assay records for tumors demonstrating (1) hi

BACKGROUND: Liposarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor most commonly arising in the extremities and retroperitoneum. Involvement of the mesentery is rare, and primary liposarcoma of the large bowel mesentery has been reported fewer than 15 times in the English literature. Among its histological subtypes, myxoid liposarcoma is exceptionally rare in this location, with only four previous cases described. Owing to its rarity, there are no standardized management protocols, although wide surgical excision with negative margins remains the mainstay of treatment.

BACKGROUND: We retrospectively assessed volumetric response of myxoid liposarcoma (MLPS) with preoperative radiotherapy (RT) and sought to identify disease and treatment characteristics associated with response.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We identified all patients with a histologic diagnosis of MLPS who received preoperative RT from 2013 to 2021 at our institution. We used cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assess changes in tumor volume and greatest dimension during treatment. Tumors were contoured on CBCT images prior to treatment and at the end of each week of RT. Percentage change in tum

We present a case of successful resection of a fourth recurrence of oligometastatic myxoid liposarcoma to the retroperitoneum. This case highlights the importance of centralised sarcoma centres with high surgical and patient volume, extensive perioperative work-up and the multidisciplinary management of patients with sarcoma. Perioperative work-up included a CT coronary angiogram, which identified intraventricular cardiac metastasis. The patient underwent a successful resection of the cardiac lesion prior to laparotomy, excision of right iliac fossa mass with en bloc ileocolic resection, excis

Liposarcoma is a rare primitive mesenchymal tumor, developed at the expense of adipose tissue and with a preferential location in the thigh. We report an observation of liposarcoma in the buttock. A 56-year-old man, presented with a tumor of the right buttock for 2 years. Examination revealed an inflammatory, ulcerated tumor in the upper-external quadrant of the right buttock, measuring about 8 cm. Bilateral inguinal adenopathies were associated. The diagnostic hypotheses were: a squamous cell carcinoma, a cutaneous lymphoma, and cutaneous metastases. An anatomical examination confirmed the di
