Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is an aggressive form of peripheral T-cell lymphoma that is characterized by lymphadenopathy, night sweats, fever, weight loss, and autoimmune phenomena. Cutaneous manifestations are present in up to 50% of cases, but few cases are reported in the dermatologic literature. We present a case of AITL that manifested in the skin. The patient was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma 3 months prior based on results from a lymph node biopsy. Reexamination and immunohistochemical staining of the previously biopsied lymph node specimen revea

A case of primary gastric T-cell lymphoma, which was positive for granzyme B, is reported. The patient was a 47-year-old Japanese female who complained of a dull upper abdominal pain. Radiographic and endoscopic examinations revealed an ulcerative infiltrative lesion in her stomach. Following the confirmation of a high-grade malignant lymphoma, a distal gastrectomy with regional lymph nodal dissection was performed. The histology of the gastric lesion revealed a malignant lymphoma of the diffuse pleomorphic type without lymph nodal involvement. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the tumor cell

We report a unique case involving cardiac manifestation of T-cell lymphoma and associated risk management of ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. A 39-year-old woman presented with a syndrome consistent with fever in a returned traveler, ultimately diagnosed with stage IV peripheral T-cell lymphoma involving the myocardium with ventricular tachycardia. Management of risk of sudden cardiac death was complicated by hematological management with an antibody-drug conjugate chemotherapy regimen and later autologous stem cell transplant. There was no significant evidence base to consult

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) is an extremely refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma that develops after persistent human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection. In recent years, the number of HTLV-1 carriers has decreased due to lifestyle changes and different measures. Rapid progression in comprehensive genetic analysis techniques has revealed the molecular basis of ATL. Therefore, in addition to conventional prognostic indices based on clinical parameters, prognostic indices incorporating genetic mutations have been proposed. The standard treatment for untreated aggressive ATL

Primary pulmonary lymphoma (PPL) is a rare clonal proliferation of lymphoid tissue involving one or both lungs. It is of two types, B-cell and T-cell lymphomas among which T-cell lymphoma is a rare entity and it is sparsely considered as a differential diagnosis in neoplastic lesions of the lung. Here, we are reporting a case of primary pulmonary T-cell lymphoma. PPL is a rare disease and can present with nonspecific symptoms. Radiologically, it can easily be confused with more common malignancies such as bronchogenic carcinoma with or without metastases. PPL carries different therapeutic and

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Enteropathy-associated T cell lymphoma (EATL) is a rare subtype of mature T cell lymphoma. The available literature about this rare type T cell lymphoma is relatively limited. This article provides a summary and review of the available literature addressing this entity in terms of risk factors, pathogenesis, diagnostic, and therapeutic options.
RECENT FINDINGS: EATL has two distinct subtypes. Type I EATL, now known as EATL, is closely, but not exclusively linked to celiac disease (CD), and it is primarily a disease of Northern European origin. It accounts for < 5% of periph

Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is a distinct subtype of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma mainly involving the nasal area. Since the entity was first recognized, treatment strategies have been evolving from anthracycline-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy to L-asparaginase containing regimens and recently immune checkpoint inhibitors. With the currently used combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy, more than 70% of patients with localized disease can be cured. L-asparaginase containing regimens have significantly improved treatment outcomes among patients with advanced disease. Ho

Adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATL) is a peripheral T-lymphocyte malignancy caused by an RNA retrovirus, human T-cell leukemia virus type 1. ATL is clinically classified into four disease subtypes. The acute, lymphoma type, and cases of the chronic type involving unfavorable prognostic factors are regarded as aggressive ATL subtypes that require immediate treatment. Dose-intensified chemotherapy, such as the VCAP-AMP-VECP regimen, is considered to be the most recommended treatment for aggressive ATL. However, ATL remains difficult to cure and has an extremely poor prognosis, even when such ch

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) is a malignancy of mature CD4+ T-cells caused by human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1). Twenty million people are believed to be infected throughout the world, mostly in Japan, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America, particularly in Brazil and Peru. ATL affects about 5% of infected individuals and is classified in the following clinical forms: acute, lymphoma, primary cutaneous tumoral, chronic (favorable and unfavorable), and smoldering (leukemic and non-leukemic). Although it is considered an aggressive disease, there are cases with a long pro

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) is a rare lymphoid neoplasm that in the past has been grouped with a variety of granulomatous diseases. ENKL occurs in all age groups. However, it seems to occur more often in people in their 50s and affects more men than women. It is strongly linked to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), especially in people of Asian countries. Because this type of lymphoma occurs in organs or tissues other than lymph nodes, it is called ENKL. This is a case report of a 25-year-old female patient who presented with a nonhealing ulcer at the right nasal ala involving

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma is a rare mature CD4(+) T-cell neoplasm caused by the retrovirus human T-lymphotrophic virus type 1. At present there are approximately 20 million people infected globally with this virus, and most of these individuals belong to the endemic areas in southern Japan, Africa, the Caribbean basin, and Latin America. In the United States, it is usually seen in immigrants from these endemic regions. Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma predominantly affects the adult population and is rare in children. Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma has 4 subtypes: acute, lymphomatous, chron

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a frequent subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) that is clinically characterized by generalized lymphadenopathy, extranodal involvement, advanced stage at presentation, hypergammaglobulinemia, and significant immune dysregulation resulting in infections as the most common cause of death. Recent advances in pathobiology of AITL have improved our understanding of it as a clonal T-cell disorder and of its effect on B cells in the tumor microenvironment. Reponses to first-line therapies have largely been dismal. In this review, we discuss the cl

The adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) syndromes comprise neoplasms that arise in peripheral lymphoid tissues but a high frequency present with blood involvement mimicking T-cell leukemia. Clinically ATLL is sub-classified into four groups: acute, lymphomatous, chronic and smoldering. ATLL is etiologically linked to the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I). The diagnosis of ATLL is based upon a combination of characteristic clinical manifestations, morphological and immunophenotypic changes of the malignant cells, in addition to the confirmation of HTLV-I infection. ATLL is an ag

INTRODUCTION: Nasal NK/T-cell lymphoma is a rare but well-known clinical entity. Thanks to improvements in anatomopathology and the development of routine immunohistochemistry, the diagnosis of nasal NK/T-cell lymphoma (NK for "natural killer") was recognized by the WHO in 2001. The main differential diagnosis is with Wegener's granulomatosis. Treatment is based on radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Prognosis is poor, with variable evolution and sometimes rapid progression.
CASE REPORT: The authors report the case of a 54-year-old man without known pathological history, who presented with bilater

Adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATL) was first described in 1977 as a distinct clinico-pathological entity with a suspected viral etiology. Subsequently, a novel RNA retrovirus, human T-cell leukemia/lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) was isolated from a cell line established from the leukemic cells of an ATL patient, and the finding of a clear association with ATL led to its inclusion among human carcinogenic pathogens. The three major routes of HTLV-1 transmission are mother-to-child infections via breast milk, sexual intercourse, and blood transfusions. HTLV-1 infection early in life, presu

A 32-year-old male with chronic hepatitis B was admitted to a hospital with cellulitis in the right leg in September 2006. Pancytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly, and systemic superficial lymph node swelling were noted, and he was referred to our hospital. He developed fever and liver dysfunction in June 2007 and underwent a splenectomy. His pancytopenia subsequently improved. A pathologic diagnosis of hepatosplenic alphabeta T cell lymphoma was made by examining spleen tissue and biopsy specimens of the liver and mesenteric lymph node. He had stage IVB disease because neoplastic T cells were noted

Enteropathy associated T-cell lymphoma (EATCL) is a high grade, pleomorphic peripheral T-cell lymphoma with usually cytotoxic phenotype. This is a case report of three patients with EATCL. The first patient was 50 year-old woman with four-year history of gluten sensitive enteropathy (GSE). Diagnosis of lymphoma was confirmed after the resection of the jejunum (small intestine obstruction). Pathohistological (PAS, Reticulin, Giemsa) and immunohistochemical (anti-LCA, anti-CD20, anti-CD45RO, anti-CD3) methods revealed the diagnosis of EATCL: CD45RO+, CD3+. After the third cycle of chemotherapy,

Adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a mature T-cell neoplasm of post-thymic lymphocytes aetiologically linked to the human T-cell lymphotropic virus, HTLV-I, and with a distinct geographical distribution. The disease manifests with leukaemia in greater than two thirds of patients, while the remaining patients have a lymphomatous form. According to the disease manifestations, various forms which differ in clinical course and prognosis have been recognised: acute, chronic, smouldering and lymphoma. Organomegaly, skin involvement, circulating atypical lymphocytes ("flower" cells) with a CD4

Session 7 of the Society for Hematopathology/European Association for Haematopathology Workshop was devoted to case presentations and discussion of enteropathy-type T-cell lymphoma (ETL) and other T-cell lymphomas involving the gastrointestinal tract. ETL is a rare type of T-cell lymphoma, often associated with a history of celiac disease, that usually arises in the jejunum but can involve other gastrointestinal tract sites (eg, stomach and colon). As the cases submitted illustrate, there are 2 histologic groups of ETL that correlate with clinical and immunophenotypic features. Pleomorphic-ana
