Topic modeling is a crucial technique in natural language processing (NLP), enabling the extraction of latent themes from large text corpora. Traditional topic modeling, such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), faces limitations in capturing the semantic relationships in the text document although it has been widely applied in text mining. BERTopic, created in 2022, leveraged advances in deep learning and can capture the contextual relationships between words. In this work, we integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) modules to LDA and BERTopic and provided a comprehensive comparison on the a

DESIGN: Prospective double-blind study.
OBJECTIVE: Manual emptying of rectal contents is necessary for patients with spinal cord injury to prevent bowel obstruction; however, this maneuver induces a rise in blood pressure (BP) and autonomic dysreflexia (AD). The purpose of this prospective double-blind study was to investigate whether topical anorectal anesthesia attenuates the BP rise and AD during bowel manipulation in patients with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI).
SETTING: Kibikogen Rehabilitation Center for Employment Injuries.
METHODS: The study subjects were 25 consecutive clinical

There has been a long-standing need for a diagnostic manual that documents the unique pathological behaviors of lesbians. The Dyke Diagnostic Manual (DDM) is meant to supplement mainstream classification systems used to identify problematic behaviors in heterosexuals. This article presents thirteen uniquely lesbian conditions that are nowhere to be found in heterosexist diagnostic systems. The DDM may help to reduce the pain and suffering found in many lesbian relationships where one or both partners are afflicted.

Regarding treatment of acne vulgaris and rosacea, there is not much difference between hospital and practice nor among practicing dermatologists. Most of the assistants performing the important physical-manual treatment have had the same training. After analytical conversation and etiologic as well as diagnostic classification, the patients undergo the following manual treatment: cleansing, astringing, removing of comedones, massage, face pack, and covering with tinted emulsion. At home, acne: cleansing, massage, skin lotion, vitamin A acid, benzoylperoxide, antibacterial therapy; in serious m

The desire to identify with and assume the role of the opposite gender has been present with us since antiquity. Unfortunately, the syndrome of transsexualism as defined by the DSM-III encompasses many individuals who are seeking a gender change perhaps allowing reassignment to take place when not indicated. This paper reviews the major classifications applied to the condition of transsexualism and a new model of classification for individuals with Gender Dysphoria is outlined. It will be shown that by subdividing the condition into those with the hypothesized syndrome (primary (true) transsex

We note the recent paradigm shift to sub-divide anxiety into endogenous and exogenous forms, with the former (panic disorder) being viewed as a genetically-determined metabolic disorder. We examine some of the supportive evidence and note the limitations of an exclusive biological model for panic disorder. Drug and other therapies are considered briefly and attention is drawn to the pluralistic approaches used in specialized treatment centres in Australia.

BACKGROUND: The golden standard for sleep classification uses manual scoring of polysomnography despite points of criticism such as oversimplification, low inter-rater reliability and the standard being designed on young and healthy subjects.
NEW METHOD: To meet the criticism and reveal the latent sleep states, this study developed a general and automatic sleep classifier using a data-driven approach. Spectral EEG and EOG measures and eye correlation in 1s windows were calculated and each sleep epoch was expressed as a mixture of probabilities of latent sleep states by using the topic model L

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of common mental disorders (CMDs) among people living with HIV and people who inject drugs is high worldwide and in Vietnam. However, few evidence-informed CMD programs for people living with HIV who inject drugs have been adapted for use in Vietnam. We adapted the Friendship Bench (FB), a problem-solving therapy (PST)-based program that was successfully implemented among patients with CMDs in primary health settings in Zimbabwe and Malawi for use among people living with HIV on methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) with CMDs in Hanoi, Vietnam.
OBJECTIVE: This study

Feature representations with rich topic information can greatly improve the performance of story segmentation tasks. VAEGAN offers distinct advantages in feature learning by combining variational autoencoder (VAE) and generative adversarial network (GAN), which not only captures intricate data representations through VAE's probabilistic encoding and decoding mechanism but also enhances feature diversity and quality via GAN's adversarial training. To better learn topical domain representation, we used a topical classifier to supervise the training process of VAEGAN. Based on the learned feature

An 8 wk old Scottish terrier was evaluated for a 2×2 cm mass located directly adjacent to the lateral canthus of the right eye. Examination revealed a well-developed Cuterebra larva at the lateral aspect of the orbital cavity, anchored at the lateral canthus. The larva was manually removed under general anesthesia, and the eyelid margin was repaired. Systemic and topical antibiotics along with systemic anti-inflammatory treatment were instituted. The lesion healed completely, revealing a normal functional right eye 10 days after removal of the Cuterebra larva. Careful manual removal of the lar

The middle ear is located in the center of the temporal bone and bears a highly complex anatomy. The recently introduced exclusively endoscopic transcanal approach to the middle ear is a minimally invasive technique sparing the bone and mucosa of the mastoid bone, since the middle ear is accessed through the external auditory canal. This emerging method has several advantages over the traditional (microscopic) approaches to the middle ear such as the panoramic wide-angle views of the anatomy, the possibility to approach and magnify tiny structures, and the possibility of looking around the cor

OBJECTIVE: To assess the new edition of WHO Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Surveillance Standards (WHO Standards) based on syndrome surveillance data and to provide field evidence regarding the standards.
METHODS: Based on syndrome surveillance data, acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) case was categorized, according to the WHO Standards. A cohort study was applied to estimate the AES definition set in the Standard and relative risk was computed to estimate the existence and intensity of statistical correlation between AES and JE cases. Percentage of attributable risk was counted to describe the co

Although simple phobia is a residual category in DSM-III, clinical experience suggests at least four subtypes of this group. To test the validity of the subtypes, the authors compared patients with one of four simple phobias subtypes (n: animal-insect = 25, blood-injury = 9, situational = 46, choking-vomit = 8). Significant sex differences were observed; all animal and insect phobics and seven of eight choking-vomit phobics were female, while the other two groups showed approximately equal numbers of males and females. Mean age of onset was significantly older for situational phobics than anim

This issue of the American Journal of Otology includes the second of a series of articles on facial nerve disorders, which collectively are known as the "Facial Nerve Manual." In the early 1980s, Dr. Mark May chaired the AAO-HNS Facial Nerve Committee and organized the Facial Nerve Study Group. One of the tasks he initiated was the creation of a Facial Nerve Manual, assigned to a small group of clinicians at the COSM Meeting in the Spring of 1984. The purpose of this work was to disseminate practical information on management of selected facial nerve problems, one of the primary charges of the
