2 patients showing oral-facial asymptomatic dyskinesia are reported. Clinically observed involuntary movements are the same as those described by Henry Meige in 1910 for the first time. An outstanding EMG feature is the recording of spontaneous potential bursts, both short and long in duration, that show synchronism when activity is registered from different facial muscles at the same time. Clinical and EMG data allow close comparison between involuntary movements in the course of Meige syndrome and idiopathic hemifacial spasm.

RATIONALE: Dysgerminoma is a rare malignant tumor of the ovary, more frequently occurring in young women. The main signs of pseudo-Meigs syndrome (PMS) are ascites and hydrothorax accompanying benign or malignant ovarian tumors (no fibroma or fibroma-like tumor).
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 19-year-old woman with fever and chest tightness for 2 days.
DIAGNOSES: Pectoral-abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large amount of right pleural effusion, a small amount of ascites, and a huge abdominopelvic mass measuring about 29.2cm × 11.8cm × 8…

Borderline ovarian tumor with the initial presentation of pseudo-Meigs' syndrome is rare. A 52-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with a large ovarian tumor, ascites, and right hydrothorax. We found elevated serum carcinoembryonic antigens (44.4 ng/mL), carbohydrate antigen (CA)-125 (269.8 U/mL), and CA-199 (7942 U/mL). The frozen section pathology revealed a mucinous borderline ovarian tumor, and a staging operation was performed. Final pathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of intestinal type ovarian mucinous borderline tumor with non-invasive cul-de-sac implants. Her pleural ef

A 31-year-old woman, with primary infertility associated with cervico-vaginal defect, presented with intermittent breathlessness often correlated by the patient with menses, cough and chest pain. The symptoms had lasted for 6 months, and were attributed to a pleurisy, which was confirmed at roentgenology and treated by frequent thoracentesis, evacuating in all over 15 liters of fluid. Several aetiologies were excluded, such as: viral, TB, L.E., neoplasia, liver disfunction. A gynecological ultrasonography finally diagnosed a solid extensive ovarian tumour. Right oophorectomy has completely sto

BACKGROUND: Meige syndrome is a cranial dystonia which presents with blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia, identified in patients with Parkinson's disease, atypical Parkinsonism, and essential tremor. Treatment of Meige syndrome involves both pharmacological and surgical interventions including botulinum toxin injections, muscle relaxants, dopamine receptor antagonists, and anticholinergic drugs. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has also been used to treat these patients with medically refractory Meige syndrome with a high degree of efficacy. Herein, we present a case of medically refractory M

INTRODUCTION: Meige syndrome (MS) is a cranial dystonia disorder characterized by blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia. Current treatments include botulinum toxin therapy, oral medications, and surgical interventions. Here, we present a case that the patient's symptoms improved significantly after treatment with acupuncture.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 72-year-old woman came to our acupuncture clinic with eyelid twitching and jaw muscle tension. She described being diagnosed with MS two years ago due to the same symptoms, and her symptoms gradually worsened over the past six months. After 4 weeks

Meige syndrome, also known as blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia, is a neurological movement disorder that involves the involuntary muscle contractions of the eyes, mouth, tongue, and jaw. It is often associated with other disorders, such as Parkinson's disease. We describe a case of an 87-year-old man with Meige syndrome who was successfully treated with oral baclofen.

Meige syndrome is a rare form of segmental dystonia characterized by blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia. A few case reports of Meige syndrome have been associated with Lewy body pathologies, and the syndrome was also proposed for inclusion in the spectrum of Lewy body disease. We report a case of an elderly gentleman with a history of Meige syndrome for more than 10 years who developed dementia with Lewy bodies. Updated clinical and pathological evidence of linkages between these two conditions is also presented.

Meige's syndrome is characterized by blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia. It has been reported as a complication of typical antipsychotics. To the best of our knowledge, case of olanzapine-induced tardive Meige's syndrome has not been reported in the literature. We we are reporting report a case of Meige's syndrome developing after long term therapy with olanzapine.

Fifty five patients with Meige's syndrome were examined for clinical and demographic features. The mean age of onset was 52.3 years. The peak age of onset was in the sixth decade with a male to female ratio of 1.11:1. The mean duration of illness was 3.7 years. Commonest initial symptom was increased blinking, seen in 30 cases (54.5%). Twenty five patients (45.4%) had complete syndrome of blepharospasm with oromandibular dystonia, whereas 24 patients (43.6%) had blepharospasm alone and the rest (6 patients, 10.9%) had oromandibular dystonia. The extension of spasm beyond cranial muscles was ob

Meige's syndrome is characterized by blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia. Three cases are presented; two were associated with long-term neuroleptic administration. This drug-induced syndrome may be a variant of tardive dystonia, and prompt discontinuation of neuroleptic treatment may be therapeutic.
