The incidence of the neurocutaneous syndrome in children with organic brain lesions of varying origin was studied. It was shown that in reviewing the structure of this syndrome (along with the other extensively described pathological forms, such as Recklinghausen's disease, tuberous sclerosis, Sturge-Weber disease, etc.), the neurocutaneous syndrome characterized by depigmented spots on the skin should be considered separately. The paper describes at full length the individual dermatoglyphic parameters and features of the neurological state of the patients suffering from the neurocutaneous syn

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis is a congenital neurocutaneous disorder with the distinguishing histopathological features of dysgenesis and neoplasia of the adipose tissue. The dominant clinical features of the syndrome include convulsions beginning in infancy, mental retardation, and unilateral cutaneous and ophthalmological lesions with ipsilateral cerebral malformations. A patient with this rare disorder of ectomesodermal dysgenesis has been studied in order to classify clinically and histologically the associated skin lesions. To our knowledge, this is the fourth case of encephalocra

Rare unusual syndromes of hereditary pathology are the most frequent in inbred families. The authors present a clinico-genealogical description of an inbred family in which the neurocutaneous syndrome was observed in four sibs. The syndrome consisted in combination of ichthyosis with spastic paraparesis which manifested itself in the presence of normal body height and a good intellectual level. In two nephews of the diseases a spastic paraparesis was suspected. The syndrome described cannot be placed into the limits of known disease entities and should be regarded as a new variant of the neuro

BACKGROUND: The central nervous system originates ontogenetically from the ectoderm and therefore numerous neurocutaneous syndromes exist.
OBJECTIVE: We describe a novel neurocutaneous syndrome with characteristic epidermal papules and plaques associated with mild psychomotor retardation and epilepsy with a good prognosis.
METHODS: We investigated history, clinical features, laboratory parameters including karyotype, histopathological and immunohistological examination, electron microscopy, HPV infection, EEG and neurologic imaging in patients with an unusual symptom complex.
RESULTS: Six c…

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis is a congenital hamartomatous disorder with unique ocular, cutaneous and neurological features. A 13-year-old boy presented with history of mental retardation and delayed developmental milestones. Bulbar conjunctiva of left eye showed hypertrophy with a soft reddish limbal nodule encroaching on the cornea. Dermatological examination showed multiple patches of alopecia, soft papules in the left perioral and periorbital areas, soft masses over the right axilla, trunk and in the lumbosacral region suggestive of lipomas. The CT scan of the brain revealed well-d

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) presented with characteristic multiple organ involvement.
METHODS: A 7-day-old white Iranian girl was referred with ocular, skin and brain abnormalities.
RESULTS: The findings of nevus psiloliparus, eyelid choristoma and intracranial lipoma were consistent with ECCL.
CONCLUSION: Since the skin and ocular manifestations can be easily observed at birth examination, pediatricians and ophthalmologists should be aware of this condition.

INTRODUCTION: Legius syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by the mutation in the SPRED1 gene involving a negative regulator of the RAS-MAPK pathway, similar to neurofibromin and therefore shows some clinical similarities to neurofibromatosis type I (NF1) but less severe. These patients have multiple cafe-au-lait spots, sometimes associated with skin fold freckling, dysmorphic features, lipomas, and mild learning disabilities. However, this syndrome is not associated with neurofibromas, optic gliomas, Lisch nodules or tumor predisposition.
CASE REPORT: We present a 10 months child

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) is a rare congenital neurocutaneous syndrome comprising unilateral cranial lipomas, lipodermoids of the eye and brain abnormalities. A 3-year-old boy who presented at birth with a scalp lipoma and an ipsilateral epibulbar lipodermoid is described. Infantile spasms developed at 9 months of age and cerebral imaging showed thickened and calcified cortex at the right occiput and hemiatrophy of the right hemisphere. These features were consistent with ECCL. Most children with ECCL have significant developmental delay, but we have found that control of sei

INTRODUCTION: Both dermatological and neurological manifestations characterise neurocutaneous syndromes (NCSs). Although individually rare, collectively they impose a substantial clinical, humanitarian and economic burden, often contributing to barriers in healthcare access. This scoping review aims to map global evidence on healthcare access and service utilisation in NCSs and identify barriers, facilitators and gaps in care.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This scoping review will follow the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines. B…

The phenotypical profile of cutaneous and ocular manifestations in neurocutaneous syndromes is inconstant. We made a cross-sectional study over 18 months of children with neurocutaneous syndromes aged between 1-15 years. A varied presentation was found. Attention to both the typical but also the rare atypical presentations enhances an early identification of the disorder and therefore opportune management.

The authors report a 1-year-old Japanese boy, who was noted to have unilateral alopecia and a cloudy cornea since birth. Additional features included mild spasticity and mental retardation, DQ being 70. A non-communicating cystic lesion was found in the right middle cerebral fossa by metrizamide CT scan, and resection of the lesion by craniotomy revealed an arachnoid cyst. The case was diagnosed as encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis, a recently described neurocutaneous syndrome.

An 11-year-old girl had multiple, disseminated, rather small café-au-lait macules and hypochromic spots involving the neck, the trunk and the legs. In part, the two types of macules showed a spatial proximity, suggesting didymosis (twin spotting). The term cutis tricolor has been proposed to describe congenital paired hyperchromic and hypochromic macules on a background of intermediate skin. Because the spots present in this case were much smaller than those described in previous cases of cutis tricolor, we here propose the distinguishing term 'cutis tricolor parvimaculata'. The underlying gen

Wyburn-Mason's syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disorder consisting mainly of unilateral arteriovenous malformations of the midbrain and retina with multiple cutaneous nevi. The authors report on the clinical presentation, neurologic phenotype, and long-term neurologic follow-up of two unrelated children. The first patient had recurrent epistaxis during early childhood. At the age of 7 years, he developed acute hemianopsia and right hemiplegia. Angiography revealed large bilateral arteriovenous malformations involving the midbrain thalamic area and the right optic nerve. During the following

The acronym PHACES summarizes the most important manifestations of a rare neurocutaneous syndrome. Specifically, "P" accounts for malformation of the brain in the region of the posterior fossa, "H" stands for haemangiomas, "A" is for arterial anomalies, and "C" is for coarctation of the aorta along with cardiac defects, "E" is for abnormalities of the eye, and "S" for clefting of the sternum, and/or a supraumbilical abdominal raphe. Our objective is to introduce the syndrome to paediatric cardiologists. Our patient has stenosis of the aortic arch, multiple malformations of the great vessels ar

BACKGROUND: Parry-Romberg syndrome is characterized by progressive hemiatrophy of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle and bones of the skull. Its incidence is low, with a progressive and slow course. Its etiology is unknown, but it has been associated with several factors. Its clinical presentation involves dermatological, musculoskeletal and neuropsychiatric manifestations. The treatment consists of medical and surgical strategies. The use of steroids, alone or in combination with immunomodulators, has the objective of slowing down progression. The surgical treatment lies in facial reconstr
