Blue nail dyschromia may represent melanocytic, vascular, or other etiologies. A case of a subungual blue nodule is presented, with a pseudo-clubbed nail. On histopathologic examination, there was a combined subungual blue nevus, with features of a common blue nevus and a pigmented epithelioid melanocytoma. This unusual presentation is reviewed, with a discussion of blue nail dyschromia and subungual blue nevi.

Inguinal intranodal blue nevus is a rare lesion, but awareness of the condition will avoid a mistaken diagnosis of metastatic melanoma. The authors describe the case of a 40-year-old woman in whom an inguinal node blue nevus was discovered incidentally during radical vulvectomy for squamous cell carcinoma. They describe the characteristic light and electron microscopic features. With increased awareness of this lesion the authors believe it will be found in lymph-node chains other than the inguinal and axillary ones previously reported.

We describe 5 cases of "compound blue nevus" (CBN) ("superficial blue nevus with prominent intraepidermal dendritic melanocytes," "Kamino nevus"). Dermoscopically in 2 of 4 cases the bluish pigmentation characteristic of blue nevi was centrally replaced by a black lamella, with black dots and brown globules also observed in one case, thus revealing a structural asymmetry suggestive of melanoma. Histopathologically, pigmented parakeratosis was the underlying histopathologic finding of black lamella and dots/globules. Immunohistochemistry highlighted the unique histopathologic feature of CBN, na

Blue nevus is a type of uncommon benign pigmented lesion in the skin or the mucosa of human body which is featured by pigmented dendritic melanocytes and spindled melanocytic cells. Sinonasal blue nevus is extremely rare. We reported a sinonasal blue nevus case with the background of pituitary adenoma, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertension (including endoscopic and histological pictures). Further, the existing literature about blue nevus is reviewed. This paper puts a spotlight on the potential correlation between blue nevus with the endocrine system disorder and provides support for furt

The blue nevus is a variant of a melanocytic nevus that presents as blue-gray to blue or black papules or nodules measuring up to 1 cm in diameter; it has a predilection for females and can be congenital or acquired. The classification of blue nevi is complex, with biological behavior being benign, borderline, or malignant. The case we present is one of a 40-year-old woman with multiple dermatofibromas that appeared and increased gradually in size during pregnancy. Physical examination revealed three spherical, brownish to red-purple nodules localized on the left leg, right shoulder and right

The intraoral blue nevus is a benign, relatively rare lesion that usually occurs in adults and most often in women. The reported case is interesting because the patient was only 11 years old. The lesion, located in the hard palate, was surgically removed. The specimen was sent for histologic examination, resulting in the final diagnosis of common blue nevus.

Melanocytic nevi are the most common benign proliferations of melanin-producing cells in Caucasians; up to 30 lesions can be seen in an adult individual. Lesional cells are usually superficially located in the epidermis-superficial dermis. Blue nevi are less common. They represent benign proliferations of fusiform dermal melanocytes in the submucosa or deep dermis. These cells contain abundant melanin granules. The blue color is due to the deep location of the lesional cells and the Tyndall effect. In the oral cavity, both melanocytic and blue nevi are rare; the hard palate being the site of p

Blue nevi are characterized by a collection of pigment-producing melanocytes in the dermis. These lesions clinically present as well demarcated cerulean-blue or bluish black colored papules or plaques that usually measure less than 1 cm in diameter. They are typically found on the dorsal surface of the hands and feet or in the head and neck region; however, they are rarely found in the oral cavity. These lesions are usually benign and stable over time. However, malignant melanomas developing in or associated with a blue nevus (which is also called malignant blue nevus) have been only rarely re

BACKGROUND: The blue nevus of the oral cavity is a rare lesion with important differential diagnoses. The plaque-type blue nevus is an uncommon variant of the blue nevus. Because of its particular clinical appearance, it can easily be confused with satellite metastases from malignant melanoma. The diagnosis usually requires a biopsy.
OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical and histological features of a plaque-type blue nevus of the buccal mucosa in a 20-year-old white woman, to review all intraoral blue nevi and all plaque-type blue nevi reported in the literature so far and to compare the crit

The pathologic and immunohistochemical features of 5 cases of blue nevus of the endocervix are presented: 4 of them were studied ultrastructurally. The lesions were incidentaly discovered at microscopic examination and showed pigmented dendritic cells in the cervical stroma. Immunocytochemical examination showed all cases to be positive for S-100 protein. Ultrastructurally they contained melanosomes, were surrounded by a basement membrane, and displayed occasional desmosome-like devices. Histogenesis is discussed, and support for a schwannian origin is presented.

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare angiomatosis characterized by distinctive cutaneous and gastrointestinal venous malformations that result in gastrointestinal haemorrhage and iron-deficiency anaemia secondary to the bleeding episodes. We hope to emphasize the possibility of recurrent melaena in BRBNS and heighten physicians' awareness about the disease to contribute to its early detection.

We describe a case of the blue rubber bleb naevus syndrome, an uncommon systemic disorder characterized by multiple bluish haemangiomas of the skin and gastrointestinal tract. The syndrome is commonly associated with iron deficiency anaemia due to gastrointestinal bleeding. The syndrome is likely to be caused by a gene mapping to chromosome 9p and showing autosomal dominant inheritance. This is the first Danish report of this unusual disease. We hope that this case will heighten the awareness of this condition, because early recognition is essential for appropriate medical intervention and gen
