Observation inflation as source confusion: Symmetrical conflation of memories based on action performance and observation.

People often cannot remember the source of their memories despite recalling other elements of a remembered event correctly. Observation inflation is one such error of source monitoring. It refers to remembering the actions of another agent as self-performed. While the existence of this memory error is well documented, it is not clear how it relates to other errors of source attribution: It is not evident whether the phenomenon reflects (1) a specific tendency to appropriate the actions of other agents, (2) a general confusion of sources with overlapping features, or (3) whether it is a confoun…

Observation of Topological Magnon Edge States.

Magnons, the quanta of spin waves, can serve as information carriers with promising applications in ultralow-power spintronic devices. Specifically, magnon Chern insulators (MCIs) exhibit topological magnon band structures featuring chiral edge states. Direct observations of the topologically protected magnon edge states have long been pursued. Here, we report the spatially resolved detection of magnon edge states in a two-dimensional ferromagnet with a honeycomb lattice (single-layer chromium triiodide). Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we observed magnon-assisted inelastic tunneling cond…

Hirayama's Disease: About a Clinical Observation.

Hirayama disease, also known as non-progressive juvenile spinal muscular atrophy of the upper limbs, brachial monomelic amyotrophy, or benign focal atrophy, affects the C7 D1 myotomes; an electromyogram (EMG) shows neurogenic damage in the C7-C8-T1 territories. It causes weakness and amyotrophy of the distal upper limb. Although it usually occurs on one side only, bilateral symmetric cases of Hirayama disease have occasionally been described. It is a slow, progressive disease, and its evolution can have a good prognosis when detected early in the process. We describe a clinical observation of …

Biological Earth observation with animal sensors.

Space-based tracking technology using low-cost miniature tags is now delivering data on fine-scale animal movement at near-global scale. Linked with remotely sensed environmental data, this offers a biological lens on habitat integrity and connectivity for conservation and human health; a global network of animal sentinels of environmental change.

Iniencephaly: radiologic and pathomorphologic perinatal observation.

Iniencephaly (IE) is a rare neural tube malformation involving severe head retroflexion and deformity of the spine. IE is typically accompanied with other congenital abnormalities and carrying a poor fetal prognosis. This report presents radiological findings in a rare case of IE associated with multiple malformations of the skull, spine, face, heart, and body. A 44-year-old pregnant female underwent an obstetric ultrasound examination on the 26th week of gestation followed by fetal magnetic resonance imaging on the 36th week. Imaging revealed complex developmental anomalies, which led to the

[CT observation of retromaxillary posterior ethmoid].

Objective:To investigate the morphologic characteristics of the retromaxillary posterior ethmoid.Method:A total of 103 outpatients encountered in our hospital during March 2012 and December 2012,who completed paranasal sinus CT examination, were included in this study.Patients had no sinus trauma, surgery or tumor history.Their paranasal sinus CT scans were analyzed from scheduled axial and coronal plane. The incidence and imaging features of the retromaxillary posterior ethmoid were observed.Result:The retromaxillary posterior ethmoid(RMPE)was the posterior ethmoid cell that expanded along the l
