Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta is an inherited disorder of the connective tissue. The extreme bone fragility seen in patients suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta pose a series of problems with regard to behavior management and rendering of quality dental treatment. Presented here a case of a four year old child suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare congenital disorder of collagen production that results in brittle bones and affects other body systems containing collagen. This article reviews the current body of knowledge about OI and the management of infants with the disorder. Relieving pain, reducing the incidence of new fractures, establishing adequate follow-up, and connecting parents with community resources are the goals of management during the neonatal period. A case study illustrates management and the discharge process.

[Osteogenesis imperfecta].

The paper describes patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (oi). It gives the causes of oi, shows types according to Sillence. Discuss clinical and radiological appearance of the patients. It provides the latest information about rehabilitation and surgical treatment (multilevel osteotomies and rodding), and supplementation of osteoporosis connecting with oi.

Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetically determined disorder of connective tissue characterized by bone fragility. The disease state encompasses a phenotypically and genotypically heterogeneous group of inherited disorders that result from mutations in the genes that code for type I collagen. The disorder is manifest in tissues in which the principal matrix protein is type I collagen (mainly bone, dentin, sclerae, and ligaments). Musculoskeletal manifestations are variable in severity along a continuum ranging from perinatal lethal forms with crumpled bones to moderate forms with deformit…

Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Recent biochemical, linkage, and molecular genetic studies have demonstrated that, in almost every instance, osteogenesis imperfecta results from mutations in the genes that encode the chains of type I collagen. Such studies have done much to improve our understanding of the molecular basis of brittle bone disease, and have provided significant inroads into molecular diagnosis and prognostic counseling. Nonetheless, further investigation is needed urgently to identify forms of medical therapy that will decrease morbidity in osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Major advances have occurred in the classification of OI and in the definition of underlying molecular defects. A clearer understanding of the pathogenesis of OI and of the relationships between the phenotypes and genotypes should emerge. The study of induced mutations in selected regions of the collagen genes with expression in cultured cells or transgenic mice should hasten this process. These advances will also provide a basis for studies into the large number of other genetically determined connective tissue disorders that are grouped together as the skeletal dysplasias. The results of rec
