[Mesenteric panniculitis simulating malignancy].

BACKGROUND: Panniculitis mesenteritis is a rare, benign, and chronic fibrosing inflammation disease with unknown aetiology that affects the mesentery of small bowel and colon. AIM: To report a new case of this entity and to highlight its diagnostic difficulties especially when it affects the mesocolon. CASE REPORT: A 37 years-old women presented with chronic abdominal pain; physical examination found mass of left ilaca fossa. Closcopy and abdominal CT scan showed a thickness of bowel wall with negative biopsies. The patient underwent a colectomy. Histologic examination concluded to the diagn

Lesser omental panniculitis: a possible cause of acute abdomen.

We encountered a case of panniculitis of the lesser omentum in 2018 after a long time since our first case report in 2007. We reviewed previously reported three cases of lesser omental panniculitis including our first case to investigate its clinical characteristics. Total four cases were relatively young with mean age of 30, and had common chief complaint of considerable epigastric pain and tenderness. Blood test showed increase in the white blood cell, C-reactive protein, or erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Computed tomography revealed mass like change in the fat tissue outside of the lesser

Sclerosing mesenteritis in a 5-year-old Chinese boy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare fibroinflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that primarily affects the mesentery of the small intestine during late adult life. Only about twenty pediatric cases have been reported to date, but none has been reported in Chinese children. CASE PRESENTATION: A 5-year-old Chinese male presented with a 4-week history of recurrent bloating, abdominal pain, anorexia and vomiting. On admission, physical examination showed a severely distended abdomen. Biochemical investigations showed a slightly increased C-reactive protein, and normal serum levels of

Isolated omental panniculitis in a child with abdominal pain: case report.

Isolated omental panniculitis is a rare entity mostly seen in adults. It presents with the inflammation of the fatty tissue of the omentum. The symptoms may vary from local (e.g. abdominal tenderness or palpable mass) to systemic manifestations including abdominal pain, back pain, fever, weight loss and bowel disturbances. We presented this case as a first awareness of omental panniculitis in a child which must be kept in mind at the differential diagnosis of ileus so that unnecessary surgeries might be avoided.

Sclerosing mesenteritis as a rare cause of upper ileus.

INTRODUCTION: Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare pathological entity characterized by non-specific tumor-like expansion in mesentery. Accurate diagnosis of this disease is rarely made preoperatively. Surgery takes place in diagnosis, as well in treatment of the disease. We presented a case of sclerosing mesenteritis that affected the final portions of duodenum and initial part of jejunum with clinical picture of upper gastrointestinal obstruction. CASE REPORT: A 46-year-old man without previous medical history was presented with vomiting and loss of weight in the last 6 months. Due to suspicio

Sclerosing mesenteritis: A rare case of large bowel and rectum involvement.

Sclerosing mesenteritis (SM) is an uncommon non-neoplastic inflammatory process in the mesentery that is seen as a pseudotumour, usually involving the small-bowel mesentery and, less commonly, the mesentery of the large bowel. The disease has two well-established histological types: the acute or sub-acute form known as mesenteric panniculitis and the chronic form known as retractile or SM. Because SM lacks special clinical manifestation and typical signs, the possibility of misdiagnosis is very high. The correct diagnosis of SM depends on pathological examination. Here in, we report a case of

Sclerosing Mesenteritis in a Patient Heterozygous for Factor V Leiden.

BACKGROUND Sclerosing mesenteritis is an inflammatory and fibrotic disease that affects the mesentery of the small intestine. This condition is non-neoplastic, although it is frequently associated with underlying malignancies. The overall etiology is unclear because of the limited number of cases available for review, yet a number of possible mechanisms have been described, including ischemia. Factor V (FV) Leiden is a hereditary condition causing hypercoagulability, thrombosis, and ischemia. Because ischemia is one of the proposed mechanisms for the fibrosis and sclerotic findings of sclerosi

Nodular form of intra-abdominal panniculitis: sonographic features.

Sonography of a patient with acute upper abdominal pain demonstrated an encapsulated hyperechoic mass which indented the stomach. Fine-needle biopsy produced atypical cells; the diagnosis of nodular intra-abdominal panniculitis was made at surgery. Sonography probably has a role in the detection and follow-up of this benign lesion.

Mesenteric panniculitis.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an inflammatory condition of mesenteric fat which may result in peritoneal space occupying lesions. Only two previously reported cases in the English literature have been evaluated by computed tomography (CT). We present 2 additional cases and emphasize that CT patterns are not specific, but suggest the diagnosis in the presence of a well-defined fibrous wall circumscribing a fatty mass containing regions with attenuation near that of water. Lymphoma and mesenteric metastases should be considered the most frequent radiologic, clinical and surgical differential diagno

Mesenteric panniculitis: a clinical conundrum.

Mesenteric panniculitis is encountered frequently during abdominopelvic CT scanning, often as an incidental finding. The observation is problematic because an association with malignancy has been raised in the literature. This review will describe the CT appearances and examine the available evidence regarding the significance of this finding.Ultimately, the literature remains unclear regarding how these patients should be managed, if at all.

[Misty mesentery : Mesenteric panniculitis and associated processes].

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing mesenteritis (SM) and mesenteric panniculitis are rare processes of the mesentery which pose a major clinical and imaging challenge. This review article attempts to introduce a systematic nomenclature to address typical symptoms, imaging and major differential diagnoses. RESULTS: SM with its subtypes-mesenteric lipodystrophy, panniculitis and retractile mesenteritis-is a chronic process with a very diverse and heterogeneous clinical appearance. The typical radiological characteristics ("misty mesentery", increased lymph nodes, pseudocapsule and "fat halo") are also not

[Mesenteric panniculitis].

Mesenteric panniculitis is a condition characterized by chronic nonspecific inflammation of the mesentery. There is little and often confusing information about its characteristics and the approach to take once it has been demonstrated by an imaging test. We propose to describe the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, radiological and pathological features of the patients with mesenteric panniculitis reported in the literature, as well as possible disorders causal or associated with mesenteric panniculitis, in the opinion of the authors of each study. Finally, we will review the different th
